Wait - if the Sox go into Cleveland up 3 games then the tribe could conceivably sweep and force a one game playoff if they end the regular season with the same record. That's my understanding.

That's what I thought, but another thread said that's not the case.

Yes it is.

I feel pretty good about our situation right now. Aboust the only way I see us having to play in a play in game is if:

We lose all four games,

Cleveland wins all four games.

Yanks win tomorrow and take 1 out of 3.

Boston wins tomorrow and takes 2 out of 3.

I think we'd be in the 3 way tie with Boston and NYY at that point.

Somebody get Bud on the phone.

No, a tie at the end of the season will result in a one game playoff, not head to head matchups. Sorry to disappoint.

You are correct... even though it should go by what happens in the regular season.

The mlb loves money.

if the sox win and tribe get swept tomorrow, then you can bust out the bubbly. But I'd keep it on ice for a bit.

Didn't the Cubs have the one game play-off a few years ago? Or was that strictly for the Wild Card with the other team going home? Since I guess we are talking about both teams going to Post, just one as champs and the other as WC.

The problem with a playoff especially if you lose you are still in the playoffs is it really messes up your pitching staff for the first round.

No, if that happens, we win the division. Unless things changed all of a sudden.

So that we can clinch on the indians field? Give me a break.

Clinch this mother f***er tomorrow.

If both the Sox and the Indians make the playoffs, WC and Division winner, and the Indians sweep the Sox, and they are tied, they go to head to head to determine who is the WC and who is the Division winner beteween the two, but thats only if they will both make the playoffs,

If both teams are in the playoffs, they don't have a game to determine who goes where. It's head-to-head.

WTF?

The Sox are 3 games up. I said if we win tomorrow and the tribe loses (gets swept) then you can break out the bubbly...translation: celebrate. As in we win the division. Because we would be 4 up with 3 to play.
