October 6, 200520 yr Does anyone know the weather is going to be on friday and do you guys think that wind can actually play a factor on where the ball could go?
October 6, 200520 yr Undoubtedly, a blustery day will help Wakefield's movement. Then again, if its too windy, it will kill his accuracy. Always a fine line with the knuckleballer.
October 6, 200520 yr QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) cold weather windy Not that cold...mid 60's. Also, rain all weekend.
October 7, 200520 yr The Sox have to be patient and selective. Let him walk as many guys as he wants to. Sit on the "fastball" if his knuckler is fluttering too much. ....easy to say, not as easy to do, though....
October 7, 200520 yr QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) Not that cold...mid 60's. Also, rain all weekend. Actually, at game time, low 70s. I call 70s warm. Where is the person that calls this cold from?
October 7, 200520 yr Over on the Red Sox boards(SOSH) they were praying for a rain out tomorrow so that Wells wouls be able to pitch game 5 instead of Clement.....hehe.
October 7, 200520 yr Remember the old riddle with a knuckleballer. If its high let the bat fly, if the ball is low let it go. If the ball is up in the zone on release, get ready to swing away. If the ball is already down you have no f***ing chance and getting it.

October 7, 200520 yr I remember when Hoyt Wilhelm used to pitch for Chicago. The announcers used to claim that he was most unhittable if the wind was blowing from home plate directly to the mound. This would make his pitches dance the maximum amount. The weather report says that Friday the wind will be coming from the south at 17 mph. However, I don't know the location of home plate, in reference to the mound at Fenway.
October 7, 200520 yr QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) The weather report says that Friday the wind will be coming from the south at 17 mph. However, I don't know the location of home plate, in reference to the mound at Fenway. If it is coming from Due South, it would be blowing from home plate to third base. A southwest wind would be blowing from home to the mound. A southeast wind is a cross wind from first base to third base. All this courtesy of Google Earth.
October 7, 200520 yr Get pods on. Varitek ain't that good catching Wakefield. Pods sould have a field day with wakefield. If anybody gets on keep them moving. Make wake unconfortable

I tell ya what...when I was growing up my dad and I used to play catch and he played minor league ball and on an Air Force base team and was a pitcher and threw on hellacious knuckleball. We'd always have to turn so he could throw it in the wind....and I s*** you not...there was a couple times when I thought I had it and got hit once in the ear once and the other right in the sac. You bet yer ass they like the wind. Dance is a pretty accurate assessment.
