November 16, 200520 yr The Score just reported that sources from San Diego are saying that Blum will be returning to the Padres next season. If true, while his stay here was short and mostly uneventful, he'll forever have a place in Sox lore with that Game 3 homer.
November 16, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) Thanks for one of the biggest hits in Sox history. ...and your namesake for about a week.
November 16, 200520 yr QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) ...and your namesake for about a week. That was a horrible week.
November 16, 200520 yr Author Nothing is really said, but here's an article for confirmation: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padre...-padstrade.html The Padres also are expected to re-sign utility man Geoff Blum, who played most of the 2005 season for them before going on to help the White Sox win the World Series.
November 17, 200520 yr not too surprising. with a with and triplets out there, it would be unrealistic to expect him to want to stay here. thanks geoff for your contribution. thanks kw for trading for him.
November 17, 200520 yr Comes out of nowhere, hits a huge home run, rides off into the sunset. I'll take it.
November 17, 200520 yr QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) Comes out of nowhere, hits a huge home run, rides off into the sunset. I'll take it. Exactly how I feel.

November 17, 200520 yr Not a surprise. I will always cheer for Blum to do well. Thanks for an awesome hit Geoff, you'll never be forgotten by Sox fans.
November 17, 200520 yr Per ESPN SC Update. Sad to see him go back to San Diego however I wish him luck.
November 17, 200520 yr So it came down to Ryan Meaux for 3 mos of Blum. 7/31/05 Acquired INF Geoff Blum from the San Diego Padres in exchange for LHP Ryan Meaux;
November 17, 200520 yr QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) So it came down to Ryan Meaux for 3 mos of Blum. I'll drink to that
November 17, 200520 yr Even though Blum only spend a few months here, he can go into the HOF with a Sox jersey on Seriously, put this guy's face on the OF wall.
November 17, 200520 yr Burroughs wouldn't be a bad Blum replacement. He also has some upside (still) and would be a good backup plan to Crede (in case his back does flare up and really bother him). I just don't know if burroughs would accept that role. He's supposed to be a quality individual though (although the fans don't like him much since he's a bust). Of course Mueller would be beter, I just don't know how the Sox can afford that.
November 17, 200520 yr QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Even though Blum only spend a few months here, he can go into the HOF with a Sox jersey on Seriously, put this guy's face on the OF wall. Did his bat go to Cooperstown as part of the 'Southside sweep" exhibit?
November 17, 200520 yr Did his bat go to Cooperstown as part of the 'Southside sweep" exhibit? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know Podsednik's bat from his walk-off homer went to the Hall of Fame. Blum's bat probably did as well considering his homer led to the end of the longest World Series game in history.
November 17, 200520 yr QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) So it came down to Ryan Meaux for 3 mos of Blum. Yeah I guess you could say we only rented him out. But what an investment it was. Ryan Meaux for Geoff Blum, ehh I wasn't too high on that trade. But if it wins a World Series, which it helped big time, it was worth it.
November 17, 200520 yr All thanks to Kenny Lofton and the San Francisco Giants. July 28, 2002: Traded by the Chicago White Sox to the San Francisco Giants for Felix Diaz and Ryan Meaux (minors). Sox still have Diaz...who are they going to trade him for to win the World Series this year?
