If that's the case, the fans are defrauded.  Because Anderson makes less than Rowand did last year and Thome makes less than Konerko last year (aggregate of around $4mill).  And the disparity is even greater compared to what Rowand and Konerko will make in 2006.  So that would mean that JR is taking his championship, taking his sold out season tickets, and slashing payroll.

I certainly hope that isn't the case.

I look it as Thome Replaces the Thomas/ Everett,which was at 12mil last year.. We are at 7ish

 

we still have to fill Paulie shoes. and have about to 15 mil to do it with.

We have 5 good starters. We have 5 starters that could, arguably, be the #1 guy on some pitching staff's. We don't need Vasquez to waste our cash by sitting on the bench. Just stop joking around now, and think realistically. Adding Vasquez likely ends any chance of us getting Konerko back, unless JR is willing to bump the payroll up to $95+ million, which I doubt.

I am sure this won't be a popular thought but hell I will ask it anyway. What if the Sox were to possibly go after Corey Patterson? The kid has tons of talent and has a much better arm than most already being discussed. If they can put him in the 7 or 8 hole and take the pressure off of him maybe he would be able to produce. I'm not saying here, I'm just saying. Thoughts?

Patterson happens to have tons of talent and speed. He is a decent CF and a above average arm...much better than Pierre. I think Patterson could be one of those "Change of scenery" type guys. With the way the Cubs handle their players is there any wonder how they screwed this guy up? I don't give a f*** all that he plays for the Cubs in the least. Only thing that would concern me about him is the attitude he was showing last season. Ozzie would have his ass though. IMO

I still think Arizona is going to have interest in Marte. If they're smart, maybe they'll try to jump in on the Florida fire sale (although who else would you want from their pen), or try to get Mota from Boston.

 

Marte will definitely still have a good market. It's just is there a good enough replacement for him. We can't rely on Cotts to definitely put up the same numbers he did in 2005.

If Big Frank is not brought back, I could see Nomar coming to the Sox if cheap. He'd be a 3D, SS, and DH. It depends on how bad he wants to stay in Chicago. He would be insurance against Thome, Hopefully Paully, Uribe, or Crede getting hurt.

A lot of people have referred to Young having a long swing IIRC. I haven't seen him play at all and I am just going by what I have read and heard.

Crede has a long and loopy swing when he's struggling. When he's hitting right...he's got as sweet of a swing as anyone on our team. September/October...great swing. May...August...he was flying off the ball.

Patterson is, I believe, only 25 years old. It takes awhile sometimes for things to sink in with highly thought of prospects (Derek Lee and Jon Garland jump immediately to mind). For the right price, I wouldnt mind the Sox taking a chance on Patterson.

then why even acquire patterson if that's the only difference. might as well throw young into the mix and see what happens.

I wouldn't mind picking up Patterson as a backup OF. He'd come cheap. It's been something I've thought about for a year. I think the Cubs did just mess him up with wanting him to go up and down in the order so much and never letting him get comfortable in one spot.

 

Crede's old/new swing is short which is why he's a good hitter when he uses it. Before Sept, he used some modified swing that he picked up after his first year of getting to the majors.

 

BTW, I don't know why people keep saying Pierre is a bad player. He's a pretty good player and is above average. Let's get some things straight:

 

1)He's not bad defensively. I don't know where this myth comes from. Is he as good as Anderson or Rowand? No, but in no way does he suck at defense. He's middle of the pack when it comes to the whole league.

 

2)He's a pretty good offensive player who had a bad year. I'd look at his trends, his age and what he can do. That shows me he would be a very good top of the order for years to go and that 2005 was an exception rather than the rule.
