Josh Fogg non-tendered

Pirates non-tendered RHP Josh Fogg.

Sanity prevails! There's no way Fogg was worth $3 million, though he might be a decent enough middle reliever for some team. Fogg was the Pirates' only non-tender. Dec. 21 - 1:25 am et

What would you all think of Fogg as a replacement for Vizcaino? I think it would be worth a shot.

Only, if he's the last option left. He would be lit up. Baj and Traceuy could probably do better.

I'd rather have Baj or Tracey in the bullpen then Fogg.

Fogg is a guy who's best suited to the 11th or 12th man ... a guy who can do long relief, spot start, eat some innings. I think he will sign with a team that has more opportunity for him.

I thought I read somewhere that Fogg in his first 3 innings of work did a pretty good job nice era but in the last 3 it was pretty disgusting. If thats the case it sounds like he has the makings of a very good reliever.

Really? That's interesting. In my estimation, that seems exactly the type of player Kenny and company would be interested in. Assuming Garland is traded, the Sox really don't have another Brandon McCarthy to be that sixth/spot-starter of sorts. In my opinion, Fogg fits the bill. He isn't going to dazzle anyone, but, he wouldn't have to. If he could be had for a resonable contract--presumably 1-2 years at the $1.2-$1.5M mark--I would think he'd draw some interest from his former team.

I'm thinking--and, again, I could be way off--Kenny will bring in one of our two remaining bullpen spots via free agency or trade and let the youngsters--that is, Reynoso, Tracey, Munoz, Bajenaru, etc.--compete for that final vacancy.

You sign/trade for the lefty and let the righties compete. You sign/trade for the righty and let the lefties compete.

He is a good depth guy for someone, not much more. The Pirates gave up on him as a starter. I would agree though, his future is in the bullpen.

I'd take Fogg over Baj. However, Fogg will probably make more money than the Sox are willing to pay.

I believe he also would be better than Baj, but probably would demand alot more cash.

I honestly think that some team out there will sign Fogg as a fifth starter. I'd rather have Chad Bradford. He owns righties with that sidearm delivery.

I completely agree with you. I would if he complies make a serious inquiry to sign him. He could be your long man in the pen.

Kind of like a Sean Lowe type?

That's what I was thinking. Depending on the cost, why not try it?.

He could not possibly be worse than Jon Adkins who I saw we non-tendered.

Home come Fogg is so inconsistent? He had a few good games and some where he was horrid.

I wouldn't mind us picking him back up as you say to replace Viz.

Defending World Champs do not pick up the Josh Foggs of the world.

Why not Irish? He has had some amazing games to go with some totally horsecrap outings.

What makes him different from a Viz?

We had Viz all last year. Fogg arguably is better.

Fogg could turn into a solid reliever, but Viz is hands down a better reliever than Fogg. Despite what some people say about Viz, the guy had a total rubber arm and pitched very very good in the 2nd half of the season with the Sox. The harder he was worked the better he pitched.

Fogg doesn't have that sort of resilient arm and I've yet to see him put up good numbers out of the pen. Plus Fogg isn't any more attractive than Sean Tracey or Baj, imo.

Lets not be a homer ok :P ... He might not be as good as Vizcaino was in the 2nd half of the season but he is a much better option than Tracey or Baj and he would be the 6th starter incase one of the starting 5 go down.(assuming we trade one of the 6 we currently have).

Exactly. I couldn't agree with you more. He is a much, much better option than anything the White Sox have in the farm system and is a perfect fit for the long-man/spot/sixth-starter role. What seperates him from Tracey or the Prodigal Son is having pitched in the MLB for five or six years. He is really fantastic in his first three innings of work and then begins to trail off. I think he'd be a very nice signing for the right price--maybe one or two years at $1.4M or so.

I hope the Sox organization at least inquires about him.

Fogg wouldn't be bad out of the bullpen, and it would be nice to hear the foghorn at USCF again.
