Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp

The Red Sox obviously decide the need for a quality ML proven outfielder that can play CF greatly outweighed the need for an unproven, but intiguing 3B prospect or a suspect, again unproven, CF like Jeremy Reed.

So, the Red Sox got a proven ML cf'er for an unproven player who may not pan out. So it sounds like the Red Sox did not get jobbed according to you as well.

I love how the headline is "Red Sox get Coco Crisp," when the two better players are headed to Cleveland.  Boy, the Tribe is going to be good soon (not that they already aren't.

I understand one can argue the potential of Andy Marte... but you can't seriously think G. Mota is a better player than Coco Crisp?!? Can You?

That remains to be seen. The Red Sox decided they need a CF more than they need a prospect. Who knows what the results of this trade will be?

If Coco Crispie plays good defense in CF for Boston, the trade will be a lot better. I'm just not sure how good Crisp is in CF.

agreed. I just dont have much faith in a "cant miss" prospect that has been on 3 teams in one offseason.

Plus if Lowell plays like he did two years ago, they don't have to worry about 3rd. I think people tend to forget how good Lowell has been. Sure he stunk it up last year, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him put things back together.

I wouldnt be shocked if he didnt. Kind of curiously went downhill quickly......

Latest News from Rotoworld.

WIP radio in Philadelphia is reporting that the Coco Crisp trade is being held up because Red Sox reliever Guillermo Mota failed his physical.

Concerns about Mota's elbow or shoulder are apparently providing a stumbling block, but they may not kill the deal. There's been talk of Red Sox reliever Manny Delcarmen being involved, with him maybe replacing Mota in the deal. It's also possible that David Riske could be taken out of the trade. If the Indians can get Andy Marte, they shouldn't let the relievers stand in the way. It's just too good of a trade for them. The Phillies would also come away disappointed if the Crisp deal doesn't go down, as they won't be getting Arthur Rhodes in return for Jason Michaels

Found this on Roto too. Kind of interesting.

According to the Cincinnati Post, the Reds passed on an offer of Jake Westbrook for Austin Kearns from the Indians earlier this winter.

The Reds would have gotten a #1 starter finally and unloaded their crowded outfield. No wonder their GM got fired.

Smart organization they got there in Cincy.

Haha, a perfect groundball pitcher for Great American Ball Park. Man, the Reds are so dumb. They will suck forever.

Both Westbrook and Kearns are a little below mediocre. I am glad the Reds turned it down though. Good for us. We can still plan on whipping up on Westbrook throughout the year.

coco crisp was rated the best defensive left fielder in the game last season according to hardball times metrics, and his statistics translated to the centerfield position show just how good this youngster is. not only is he the best player involved in this trade, with the way his offseason training regimen is going, he might be one of the upincoming perennial all-stars in this league at the leadoff position.

again though, as i've been saying all along, there is no deal as of right now, and nothing is done until it is done.

no, despite his inhumane baseball skills, he's all human.

Prediction:

If the trade goes through, Coco Crisp will be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

OR

If the trade doesn't go through, Andy Marte will be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Which will it be? Only time will tell.

I know that all things that become RedSox immediately get the golden blessing from all baseball gods, but slow down the perennial all-star predictions.

I am now re-reading that post for the comedy factor of pure homerism at its best.

Mota fails physical, so Crisp trade to Red Sox apparently off

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews...ts/13703028.htm

CLEVELAND - Apparently, the Indians will have to start all over again if they want to consummate a deal for Boston Red Sox third-base prospect Andy Marte and Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Jason Michaels.

A source with close ties to the Phillies revealed that Red Sox reliever Guillermo Mota failed a physical in Cleveland on Tuesday, an exam that presumably was the last step in a three-team trade that would have sent Tribe left fielder Coco Crisp, reliever David Riske and backup catcher Josh Bard to Boston in exchange for Marte, Mota and novice catcher Kelly Shoppach.

In the Philadelphia portion of the transaction, Arthur Rhodes was to be shipped to the Phillies in exchange for Michaels, who would have taken the place of Crisp in the Indians' outfield.

According to a baseball operative in Philadelphia, the Indians called with the news that Mota had flunked his physical and said, "The deal is dead."

Apparently, he was referring to both parts of the swap.

Redandwhite, is Andy Marte the best player involved in the proposed trade now? :D

Edited by SSH2005

s***, I was hoping Cleveland would give up two of their bullpen arms for a 4 OF and a bullpen guy with a bum arm. It would've only helped our chances for 2006, and no, I don't give a s*** what Marte might be doing with the Indians 3 years from now.

Wait a sec, so they got another outfielder, and still got rid of Rhodes? Hahaha, Indians lose out again.

edit: I thought the Phillies and Indians had their own seperate trade, and it was all done?
