This is me personally, but I rather would have liked to seen Thome at 1B and Thomas DH. Konerko gets into horrible slumps and at times, it boggles me how he does get to 40HR's. And at that, I still wonder how a man with 40HR's, has way less RBI's than guys with 35. That's just my 2 cents.

If you could guarantee me that Frank would stay healthy for the next two seasons, I wouldn't have minded that route as much. But no one can guarantee me that. Konerko is a pretty safe bet to stay healthy.

Frank is a great player and his mouthing off is was always his lone downside. Had he not been injured this year, he would have been running his mouth again. Sure, he's earned some of that because of the numbers he's put up in silver and black, but there comes a point when the guy needs to just shut his mouth and be a pro.

 

But how short-sighted do you have to be to overlook your health problems over the past five years? It goes a lot deeper than just one season. Thome has consistently played at least 140 games a season for most of his career.

 

Thomas, OTOH, has had three mostly-injured seasons in the past five years and the extent of his injuries pretty much limit him to DH, while a healthy Thome can be counted on to play the field.

So if someone questioned the logic in your contract you wouldn't be insulted? 

If someone said "But the bottom line is he's (referring to you) never done anything I haven't done on the baseball field" you wouldn't be insulted?

Thomas also singled out Thome, who he called a good friend. He pointed out that Thome suffered two major physical problems last season and was more injured than he was.

 

Thome declined comment on the topic when asked Friday.

What made Thomas's remarks about Thome all the more inappropriate was that he referred to him as his "good friend"!

If the A's signed him for 500K, would it have been so hard for us to do the same? Just asking, don't really know. Could we have maybe offered him a job in the organization?

 

 

Well Kenny's quote from last night is, "He wouldn't have signed with us for that much." He also went on to say if he did sign for a lesser contract, it wouldn't have been in their best interests.

Thomas and the Sox don't fit very well anymore. Chicago has moved on, even if Frank hasn't. Frank has stated that his main goal is to get 52 more homers. Oakland will give him that opportunity more readily than the Sox would have.

 

I don't think Thome is a downgrade by any means, as far as skillset goes, at this stage of the game and as far as clubhouse attitude goes ........... well ......... enough said.

I prefer to look at this final quote. Sure he ripped the Sox management some, but he said he's not bitter and didn't want it portrayed that way.

I see it as an honest interview. He'll be back someday as a coach unless he and Oz truly hate each other. Oz probably won't be here 20 years. That's a rare bird nowadays.

I am sure most White Sox fans will always love Frank Thomas. He even though he signed with Oakland, he will always be remembered as #35 with the White Sox. If it were up to me I would retire his number this season.

Hey, Frank could've ended his career with the Sox if he just f***ing retired instead of pulling a Fred McGriff.

I can't blame the guy for wanting to play on. When he has been playing, there really hasn't been much to say that he can't still be an effective player for someone.
