I have a feeling Frank is going to get booed big time. And it will suck. Terribly.

Frank was occassionally booed when he PLAYED for the White Sox.

Considering its a team that came off of a 93 win season, and sold out 5 1/2 years straight, I agree, the attendance was surprisingly low. As to booing Thome, the Indians wound up offering him over $60 million, and while Philadelphia's offer blew that away, I'm sure the fans felt jilted, just as White Sox fans were upset when Magglio left. It probably didn't help their feelings when Thome was traded to the White Sox, perhaps Cleveland's biggest rival, and he basically called it coming "home". They have a right to boo whether its appropriate or not. I'm sure it didn't affect Thome either way.

I understand that, but Peoria isn't exactly a Chicago suburb, and Thome still has a home in Cleveland.

Our fans won't boo Frank, will they?

It should be a loud ovation at least the first time he's up.

 

I won't boo; I will graciously applaud him in thanksgiving for his service. However... I will be disappointed afterwords if, instead of reciprocating, he chooses to criticize the ownership and management of my team.

Perhaps they are just trying to give Travis Hafner a friendly warning for him to remember a few years down the road before he too comes to the Sox.

There is one thing I want Thome to do today, in Lila Thome's words: "Hit a tater for me, Daddy".

And for the record, despite Frank's whining and difficulties, you can bet your a** that i will be giving him the standing O when he arrives in town. Which is why I really don't get how anyone can boo a class guy like Thome in that situation.

It's a shame.  I mean I don't recall ever hearing jim leaving on bad terms with cleveland.  All I'm thinking now what team jim thome is going to put on his HOF plaque.

The Hall of Fame (which is independent from MLB) decides what cap goes on the bust. Thome will be wearing an Indians hat regardless of who chooses it.

Thome was pissed off after the game. You could tell he was disappointed in the way he the fans reacted towards him. He even said something like "things happen for a reason, and now I definitely know I'm at the right place". He was also the first out out of the dugout when we won (even though he typically is).

Damon and Thome are very similar. Both are good guys in the clubhouse, have good charities and really help children, both basically said they would have to rip/pay a million bucks to leave their respected teams (Thome saying he'll never leave Cleveland and Damon saying he'll never play for the Yankees) both taking more money to go somewhere else (NOONE can blame them, gotta take care of the family) both playing for rival teams, and both getting booed by their old teams (Thome having horrible signs from the fans and Damon getting dollar bills thrown on the field by the fans.)

To appease the fans they gave him an offer, but it wasnt realistic or market value for a player Thome's caliber. He was basically forced out, and was hurt because of it. Jerry Manuel even said that leaving cleveland was tough on Jim.

I agree with those here that say hopefully this is not how we treat Frank. I always thought that was childish, that fans worship a guy until he's wearing a different uniform, and then he's instantly an asshole.

 

I never booed Magglio--why would I do that? He was one of my favorites and I was certainly stunned when he left, but we'll never know exactly what went down that caused him to leave so I wish him the best.

 

Plus, if people haven't learned in baseball that nobody is permanent no matter how long they've been around or how good they are... well, welcome to reality.

I wonder if his taking the day off today had more to do with the fact that he didn't want to be torn down by the fans he used to love. It had to have hurt, especially with Thome's personality and love for Cleveland.

Indian fans must be ticked off because they had him and now he is with the Sox the World Champions.

I honestly don't care what happens to Frank after his first AB back.

 

If he is not cheered in his first AB, then I am personally gonna be pissed at a lot of Sox fans.
