atrain081
Okay, this has been thrown out there many times, and this may be a "crap thread" or whatever, but I feel this needs to be out there. Contreras is pitching hurt. No, I'm not the team doctor, nor am I pretending to be, but something is obviously very wrong. His delivery is completely sidearm now, and he can't make a pitch with two strikes to save his life. On the other hand, we have Brandon "no thanks for Soriano" McCarthy, who pitches about 3 innings a month. Every start that Contreras is given is another huge dent in our playoff chances. Something is obviously wrong, and Ozzie is too stubborn to do something about it. I know I'm stating the obvious here, but I really want to know what you all think about this, and if Ozzie will do anything about it. The Critic
I've been reluctant to get on the "BMac as Savior" bandwagon, but when things have been as shaky as they have for as long as they have, at some point SOMETHING new has to be tried. And I don't believe Charlie Haeger or Chris Stewart are the something new. So why not let the kid have a few starts and see what happens? Now that the Sox have three more bullpen arms called up, surely they can mix-and-match to fill up some innings, can't they?

Baines3
Jose isn't pitching like he was. I also think he is hurting. If he's hurt put BMac in the starting rotation. Edited September 2, 2006 by whitesox1976
DBAHO
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) He only gave up two earned runs. Yeah the defense behind him in his last few outings hasn't exactly been fantastic. Still we need Jose to turn it around. If he's hurt, he needs to tell the Sox Brass ASAP. WCSox
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:50 AM) Yeah the defense behind him in his last few outings hasn't exactly been fantastic. Still we need Jose to turn it around. If he's hurt, he needs to tell the Sox Brass ASAP. If he can pitch effectively through the injury without any negative long-term effects, I'd rather have him out there. He wasn't lights-out last night, but the defense behind him was atrocious. kapkomet
Well, now we're into the BMac as savior mode again. I just am not in the camp that thinks he will get it done. But, you all may be right in this case that something else needs to be tried to 'shake things up'. I'm just not sure BMac is the answer, but what would it hurt to try, seems to be the sentiment. Be careful what you ask for, tho...
Texsox
Putting BMac in the lineup as a starter, would be the most unfair thing we could do right now. He isn't "stretched out" for the extended innnings, and the pressure would be incredible, epecially for someone who is basically a rookie. I don't think it would be enough of an upgrade at this point in the season. I could agree that the time to move him may have been a month ago. Anyone care to debate when a 4 man rotation might make sense and who should be dropped? It seems like we have two candidates.
Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) He only gave up two earned runs. Bulls***. You don't get to cite earned runs when balls fly over the fence. You wanna cite unearned runs, then do something about it, strike guys out. Don't let them hit HRs. Defense was terrible. Pitching was predictably worse. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) Putting BMac in the lineup as a starter, would be the most unfair thing we could do right now. It is a tough transistion, with proably a sacrificial start thrown in. I think it would not be enough of an upgrade to warrent the lineup change. Contreras has allowed 6 or more runs in 5 of his last six starts. Vazquez & Garcia have two quality starts against AL opponents since July. All McCarthy would have to do is not get killed as consistently as our pitching has been to be an upgrade. f***, our pitching has been consistent. We've got that down. I'm looking for sporadically good at this point.

I don't think it would be enough of an upgrade at this point in the season. Pressure? You mean like throwing a rookie who had already been brutal in his first go round in the bigs into the middle of a playoff race last year? He was a rookie last year, that title is gone as it should be for Anderson as well, Bmac has thrown 138 IP in his career that's some damn good experience right there. In case people forget this "rookie" was the best starting pitcher the Sox had down the stretch last year, 42.2 IP, 31 H, 8BB, 31 K, 1.69 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and .201 BAA post All-Star break last year on a team that was choking away a HUGE lead in the division. I really don't see how anyone could bring up pressure as being an issue with McCarthy joining the rotation when the Sox likely don't make the playoffs last year without him stepping it up in the final month and a half of the season. If he's hurt put BMac in the starting rotation. Doesn't Ozzie get mad at players if they hide injuries? Wasn't that his whole thing with Urib and his benching earlier. I don't get it. If a hurt player can't help the team then then DL him. If he's covering up Ozzie should be pissed. I don't think JC is hurt, I think he lacks command right now.
