The guess of 5,000 includes hotel guests and single-day passes for the entire weekend. In 2005 there were about 12,000 people there the entire weekend. Last year there were about 25,000 people. The only thing is if they squeeze in even close to the number of people they had at the "sold-out" 2005 fest, then their flimsy excuse of need to raise prices because they (willingly) went to a smaller venue is going to look really bad. If they had to double the prices because only half the number of people can attend, that might make a little more sense. I guess we won't know until the press release after Soxfest. IIRC, 2004 was the year they actually went over the alloted time because KW told everyone that he wanted to hear what they had to say. I would think you have to look at how the cub convention is run. I think they are trying to rid the convention of simple autograph and memorabilia hawks and trying to price them out. At the same time making hte event enjoyable for the players and the fans that do attend. I also believe security is probably an issue with the crowd last year. Just a couple of thoughts. P eople with families that just go there for a weekend away to enjoy themselves are being priced out. The autograph hawks are probably willing to spend a little more money because they know they'll get at least some of it back by selling their stuff. Considering all the conventions they have in this huge city, its shocking they couldn't find a venue to accomodate more fans. Oh well, if you don't go, at least you won't have to hear the optimism of the starting rotation picking it up in September and building on that in 2007. Needless to say, people were furious about this, every person saying they were NOT going to seek SoxFest tickets in 07.
