new weeknight start time

It seems like a rediculous deal for 7-11.... 500k is nothing. this is going to get them all kinds of national media attention for the next couple of days.

But at the same time, the Sox are going to get an extra 1.5 million because they bumped the start time up 6 min. Seems like a good deal to me...

Or back... :P

Yeah seems like win-win for both sides. White Sox get extra revenue for basically nothing and 7-11 gets 243 promotions for 1.5mil. Plus all of the internet, tv, and newspaper talk about this.

$500K may cover the cost of TP for the '07 season.

Or throw it into the player development pool each year. That could buy them a solid younger player or two per season.

They'll need a LOT more than an additional 1.5 million. Need atleast 10 million to shovel away the crap we're witnessing within our system.

Hmm. I didn't know 7-11 bought out White Hen

This is so retarded....

Still not clear on Friday's. But I hope they do change that to a weeknight as far as ticket prices are concerned. I seriously doubt it though.

The money should go towards scouting foreign players.

Friday's are 7:11 as well.

What's another 4 minutes or so?

Keep dumping money into the stadium; make it look better and better.

This is a non story. Who cares?

Actually it's $1.5M more that can go into the payroll of the team (per Brooks Boyer) I'd say that's pretty significant.

It almost seems like we could have gotten more, but this is not a bad thing at all.

I think the argument against it is that, as the Sox are expected to have a payroll around $100M this year, the $500K per year only represents roughly a .5% increase in payroll. It's like spitting in the Lake Michigan.

Yet what is the downside to starting games 4 minutes later than usual?

I don't think anyone is arguing over the 4 minutes. It's just that the $500K figure is a drop in the bucket. The Sox don't seem to have extracted what they could have for the move, as evidenced by the giddy spokewoman "We think it's worth way more than $500,000."

Exactly my thoughts

Oh yeah I totally agree with you on that, I was mainly tackling the claim that this is a "non-story".

There's an idea.

Friday games sponsored by T.G.I.Friday's.

That'll make another 125k a year for them.

Tuesday games sponsored by Ruby Tuesday's, etc.

More commercials on the pre-game shows. Ugh!

this is beyon cheesy,

embarrassing.

I'm not so sure that $500,000 would be enough for the Sox to switch the starting time to 7:11. Sounds a little crazy to me.

Very clever idea. Sports and marketing go together, and that's how it will always be, so who cares. We coulda got more money though.
