April 9, 200719 yr I just received this through one of my Scouting lists. My prayers to everyone whose life is less than a peaceful ideal. The nurse's name and position was deleted before I received it. They comes in bunches. That's what one of our nurse anesthetists said and for the most part that's true with combat trauma. This was a busy week for us. There was a suicide chlorine truck bomber in Ramadi (which is the capital of Anbar Province) just east of us that killed 27 and wounded double that number. They were all locals so we try to get the civilian hospitals to take them and they do, but it's not very pretty there. Several IEDs and snipers against good guys and we got them, but that's what were here for. We had a 10 yo boy shot by Iraqi police for failing to stop when ordered. He has a GSW to his leg with fracture and was brought in by his uncle, the police chief! His comments were, "I gotta get my guys to stop shooting everyone". They're pretty loose with the rules of engagement. We also had a young Marine SGT shot between his armor plates by a sniper that kept our ICU and OR staff going for about 72 hours straight before he was stable for evac to Germany. He emptied our blood bank and we took fresh whole blood from his buddies to keep him going. They stood at attention as we brought him out through their ranks and insisted on helping to load him on the ambulance to the airfield. I'm thinking of changing our motto from "Our Mission Is Life" to "Cheaters of Death".
