He's from Homewood-Flossmoor. He's a HUGE Sox fan.

That's good news. He'll probably overacheive and become a stud. :D

The guys on MLB.com like what we've done so far with Poreda, Griffith, and Ely.

Then they talk about Porcello like he's GOD

BTW, it's pronounced E-Lie

Round 3, Pick 119 RHP John Ely, Miami (OH)

Ely, the third straight pitcher picked by the Sox, is more like former Sox first rounders Lance Broadway and Kyle McCulloch. Known as a "solid pitcher" who is a fierce competitor, Ely throws a fastball around 92 mph, as well as a changeup and a curve. The fastball and the changeup are his best pitches, while his curve is still developing. Ely also owns a somewhat violent throwing motion that makes him harder to hit.

Wow, I called that, but in the 2nd round I thought. I know a lot about him.

Good things I hope fathom.

as opposed to....? ellie?

Angel Morales could become a good one for Minnesota. IMO, Minnesota's draft has been pretty bad.

Thank you, FutureSox.

76. John Ely, rhp

School: Miami (Ohio). Class: Jr.

B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-1. Wt.: 190. Birthdate: 5/13/86.

Scouting Report: Ely can't fill out a uniform or light up a radar gun as well as his Miami teammate Connor Graham can, but he has outperformed Graham in college and in the Cape Cod League and has a better chance to be a major league starter. Ely is just 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, and he has a head jerk in his maximum-effort delivery. His stuff is hard to argue with, however. His 89-94 mph fastball and his vastly improved changeup both qualify as plus pitches, and his curve is an average offering. Though he lacks smooth mechanics, he throws strikes and has a resilient arm that never has given him problems. His delivery also gives him deception that makes him harder to hit. Ely also is an intense competitor who helped his cause by pitching a complete-game seven-hitter at Texas in March. Though Graham scores better in what the NFL would call "measurables," Ely should get drafted slightly ahead of him, probably in the second round.

He already throws harder than both of them. :P

89-94 supposedly.

I'll be surprised if he ever makes the majors. It's still a solid pick for that slot.

It may just be me, but BasseballChannels host sounds like Zach Braff.

lol he freakin spazzes out after his follow through. pretty funny

Next pick at 149...

Who do you want to be there?

Looks like the Cubs just drafted a guy whose potential is a worse version of David Eckstein. Ick.

Middlebrooks, without a doubt. I really would've loved for Harvey to fall to the Sox with that latest pick -- I really think the Sox might have grabbed him. That's too bad, but...

Peavey, McGeary, Middlebrooks?

Middlebrooks will probably go 148 and I'll smash my skull through this monitor.

I really wouldn't mind yet another pitcher if the right one is there.

I'm down for a guy named Peavey.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:45 PM)
I'll say this. Our scouting department has been money in the later rounds the past few seasons. Just not the first round.

^^^^^^^^^^

:D

Sickles ranked Middlebrooks as the 11th best hitter in this draft. I guess he didn't play in one of the stronger Texas HS conferences. I'm not sure why he keeps slipping. He was supposed to be a steal in the 2nd round...
