Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation

Featured Replies

Taking Floyd out was obvious. The no hitter was gone, he didn't have a shutout, he was over 100 pitches, it was a big lead, he has never thrown a ton of innings in a season, and Jenks needed work badly. That was an obvious and correct move.

Maybe, maybe not (Anderson is at least 2 steps quicker than Swisher).

Well, Anderson is faster than Swisher but that's not really why he's a better CF. He gets better jumps on all the fly balls so he is either camped under the difficult ones or he's making a running grab on something other CFs have to dive for. So because he isn't flashy about it he never makes highlight reels.

I think he would've gotten to that ball but it's a moot point considering I'm all into baseball superstitions and whatnot.

a no-no through 7.2 against Detroit and 8.1 against Min.

WOW!

Fixed.

Because its a baseball no-no to change the defense when theres a no-hitter in the 9th like that. You just dont change the team on the field. Pretty basic baseball concept.

Ah, that explains it. Too bad there was no virgins to sacrifice.

Plus you give him the opportunity to walk off the field by himself to a roaring standing ovation. It was the right thing to do.

The Twins announcers were ragging on Ozzie for taking Floyd out after the Mauer double, saying that he should've given him the chance to throw a complete game. Not sure I agree, given that Floyd was already at 105 piches, has never thrown anything close to a 200-inning season, was already on the hook for the win, and Jenks hadn't pitched in a good week or so.

Anyway, congrats to Floyd. Coop has done a great job of tapping this kid's potential.

And kudos to Swisher for the effort out there. Nice to see that these guys are still playing as a team.

Pisses me off that if Anderson is in CF like he should have been in that spot, he'd be one out from a no hitter. MEH!!

However, as for Gavin, he's been great all year and was again tonight. Kudos. :notworthy

LOL. I don't ever want to hear about the media generating controversy again... you all can do it plenty fine on your own!

I wouldn't have been angry at Ozzie if he did leave him in, but I pretty much agree with you guys for the above reasons. Complete games are nice, but not nearly on the level of no-hitters. Plus, you've got to be careful with young arms.

Right, thanks. You actually said what I meant. By quicker I didn't mean faster, I meant better jumps and reads (quicker to the ball). And he is faster!

I am glad he is back in his body, because it would be very difficult to pitch like that from outside your body.

Maybe, maybe not (Anderson is at least 2 steps quicker than Swisher). That's not the issue. If you know that the pitcher has a no hitter and you're up by six runs, HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY NOT PUTTING YOUR BEST DEFENSE ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swisher is not a hack in cf. It would have been a big slap to the face of our supposed morale-boosting team leader (Swisher) to yank him in the ninth of the no-no. Like Fathom said, he's not a horrible outfielder. Not that I'm a huge Swisher fan (he's now hitting .196 to Uribe's .195, Thome's .209, Cabrera's .214) but it would have been a huge slap in the face to a guy who is supposed to be one of the key team leaders. This is (another) non issue.

Can we all just give Floyd his proper due and be happy for finally getting a win? Nope. This is Soxtalk. Let's b**** about defensive replacements and pitching changes. That's Soxtalk.

Good Job Gavin. For all the criticism he has gotten over the years from being called the best in the crop of young ones to almost being labeled "he can't do it" nice to see him have a lot of good outings. Tip my hat to him

Meaning his range exceeds that of Swisher's by at least a couple of steps... in which case what you said is true. :cheers

Floyd has been really good, but also really lucky. He has to get that K/BB ratio up (which I think he can do).

Heh.

Heh... so true. That is a statistical anomaly if I ever saw one though.

His WHIP is under 1 because his BABIP is INSANE. You think that's in any way sustainable?

No it is not sustainable, but I could see his being lower than the average by quite a bit.

:gosoxretro: :headbang You rock Gavin!

Where's BearSox? He can take credit for being right about something.
