As hard as that is to imagine... Yes, he probably would be a downgrade. But, he's a great shooter and we'd only have him for 1 year. So, if Gordon is out of our price range, the positives of trading for Miller would be: 1) He'd clear just under $10M from the cap, which would still give us enough space to sign a big name in 2010; and 2) At the same time, it helps lessen the blow of losing Gordon's scoring in the short-term (next season), while bridging a gap in talent from good scoring wing in 2009 to good scoring big man in 2010.

 

If all would go according to plan after next year, then we'd lose Miller's shooting, but gain a true all-star PF. It's really not a terrible alternative to straight up losing BG.

The other thing that Clearing Hinrich's 2010 salary does is it would still likely leave us $7.5 million or so under the 2010 cap even after signing someone like Bosh (depending of course on the exact numbers, could go down if the cap really screams downwards)...which puts us in a position to offer more than the MLE/veterans exemption to someone else.

Excellent point. I would think that we could get a pretty darn good player with that $7.5M considering there are supposed to be so many good free agents that year other than LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and Stoudemire, and then also factor in that the down economy may keep some teams from being able to spend as much.

If the cap is a little higher than I expect, that could push up to $9-$10 million also. If we have some idea in the back rooms of where the cap will actually be, that's also money that could be used to hold on to Ben Gordon this year if we were willing to go luxury tax for a little while, or if we could spin Miller off for a draft pick to anyone who has cap space this year.

Cause if I were a player I'd just state that I did it in a country that was legal. I need to find a source on this, but I don't believe the NBA tests for weed, because from what I've heard there wouldn't be much of a league left if they did.

First off, you can't be suspended if you test positive for marijuana until the third offense. Now if it were one of the "drugs of abuse" (meth, cocaine, LSD, PCP and opiates) like with Chris Anderson that's another story entirely.

 

Second, the NBA testing policy is a joke. Unless you are a rookie the only time the league can test you without reasonable causes is during the pre-season. I can't imagine they'd go through the process of determining if there's reasonable cause or not (they bring in an independent expert) for weed.

If the NBA truly tested randomly for marijuana, there would be quite a few failed drug tests.

Well, you would have to factor in a 'healthy' Bynum as well. They go from very, very good to juggernaut when he's healthy and playing well. Problem is he's missed about 85-90% of their games since the all-star break of last year. I knew when he went down earlier this year that he wouldn't be a factor the rest of the way. To think a player can miss that much time and come back a week or so before the playoffs and pick right up where you left off is too much to ask of anyone (as you can see Bynum has had zero impact in these playoffs).

I don't need anyone to put a gun to my head for that. Denver has looked worlds better than any team besides the Cavs in these playoffs. They're a different animal with Billups at the 1. The Lakers should be ashamed of themselves for needing a 7th game against a team who's best player is Aaron f***ing Brooks. I'll go ahead and assume they win anyway (and if they don't, it would go down as easily the biggest upset in NBA history, considering the circumstances).

I would say the #8 seed Denver beating #1 seeded Seattle in the early 90's I think,I can't recall the year but it's the one where the famous shot of Dikembe clutching the ball on the floor after knocking off the Sonics as the biggest upset,then the time when the Heat beat the Knicks which I believe was another 8 beating a 1 seed...sorry but I think the Lakers are overrated.

I think Denver would give a better fight to the Cavs than the Lakers but it would be cool seeing Kobe and LeBron going at it and watching James wrestle away the baton from Bryant as today's best player.Sort of like a poor man's version of MJ knocking off Magic in the 91 Finals.

1990 to be exact. And I stand by my statement. Forget about seeding. Aaron Brooks? Chuck Hayes? Carl Landry? Luis Scola? Von Wafer? Are you f***ing serious? Of these players, only Brooks was even a first-round pick (and that was near the bottom at #26). On the other side you've got the defending conference champions, a team that won 65 games this year, a team that has arguably the best player in the league, a team that is coached by arguably the greatest coach in league history? Yeah, you best believe it would be the biggest upset. Don't even try and tell me the Warriors knocking off the Mavs a couple years ago would qualify as the bigger upset. The only one that could be argued would be the Nuggets upsetting the Sonics in 1994. Besides that? There's nothing that even comes close. But I still expect the Lakers to win with ease Sunday.

Denver over Seattle and it isn't even close. This LA team is a 2 man team with a bunch of role players. They're highly overrated and I'm a Lakers fan.
