I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but how about a little conspiracy theory based on nothing... Danks told Borass to make an outrageous demand so that the Sox could pick him again, knowing it would scare off the other teams.

Interesting thought. I'll bet with his brother on the team there might have been a way to find out what it would take to sign him with the Sox. I always thought that was how it worked when the Sox traded for Garcia. Since Ozzie was his relative, he probably knew how much it would take to sign him to an extension. Now that I think about it, the Sox must have some idea or they would not have picked a Boras client. Danks should definitely make less than Kenny Williams Jr since he was drafted in the 7th and KWJr went higher in the 6th.

16 (480) - Brett Basham, C, Ole Miss

Jr, 21 (turns 22 in December), 6'2", 205

I like the multiple catcher selections

Upchurch is a pretty good prospect. Rivals rated him as a 4-star prospect and his video shows low 90s velocity with a decent slider. He's definitely projectable. Good pick.

What are the odds of signing Upchurch? Auburn signee is rated No.1 HS prospect in Alabama.

Upchurch is a 6-4, 180 lbs. RHP from Faith Academy. Baseball America's top high school prospect for the state of Alabama and 34th overall, he has been an AISA All-Star and an Alabama Baseball Coaches Association All-Star. Having helped his team to a AISA Region 1 Championship and a second-place finish in AISA Class AAA in both 2005 and 2007, he is the number one rated pitcher in Alabama by Perfect Game and was ranked 38th at the MLB East Coast Showcase. A member of the 2006 USA Junior Olympic Baseball Championship, he is a member of the Junior National Honor Society. He is the son of Alan and Brenda Upchurch.

"Steven is a power right-handed pitcher with a plus changeup. We are excited about what his future holds as a potential front-line pitcher," Slater said.

Basham's offensive stats leave some to be desired.

Basham has a strong arm behind the plate but sometimes struggles with the transfer between catching and throwing. He's a below-average hitter.

MIL just drafted a guy with a great name... Stosh Wawrzasek

wow they are really talking up beckham. Looks like the sox will break the bank to get him in at least I hope so.

Rays just drafted another Beckham, from Goergia Southern - Jeremy Beckham

That's Tim's brother, I think

The Royals took Cal Poly LHP Derrik Saito in the 16th round. His fastball has been clocked in the 92-94 range with good movement, his cutter was clocked at 88-90 his change grades out as a plus pitch as does his curveball. However, he's only 5'9", 155 lbs.

17 (510) - Jonathon Weaver, RHP, East Lyden HS (IL)

6'3", 185, just turned 18 in May. Youngster.

Jonathan Weaver has a projectable frame and hasn't signed with a four-year school. The 6-foot-3, 185 pounder has an easy, fluid delivery. His fastball sits in the upper 80s and touches the low 90s, and his breaking ball shows promise. He has committed to Heartland (Ill.) CC.

-BA.

Weaver was born in 1990, and just got drafted to a major league baseball team....I have accomplished nothing in my life....

Our 18th round pick is:

Joshua Billeaud, RHP, Southern Mississippi

Josh Billeaud also was selected in last year's draft, by the Rays in the 21st round. He returned for his junior season but has struggled, finishing the regular season with a 3-4, 7.39 record. Billeaud had more walks (37) than strikeouts (33) in 63 innings. He has arm strength, with a fastball in the low 90s and power slider, but is inconsistent.

Sure is making me feel old. I'm old enough to have a kid his age.

Does Buddy Bell have any say in anybody drafted, or is he development only?

I just turned 25 and I feel old and extremely unaccomplished compared to this guy.

The draft has turned depressing.

19 (570) - Justin Kuehn, RHP, Santa Clara U. 6'2", 190, born 6/9/87 (Happy early Birthday!)

20 (600) - Justin Greene, CF, Francis Marion U (SC). Senior, born 10/10/85, 6', 185

21 (630) - Andrew Garcia, 2B, UC Riverside. 6', 175, born 4/22/86 (bit old for a Junior)

I am sure one of his moms grandma's friends has a daughter.

Even though I don't think he's any special, I love the Danks pick. If nothing else, it will shut up a lot of people on here.
