June 7, 200817 yr Author QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) The one prediction I'll make is that neither team will sweep either of the two series. Sox/Cubs is almost always very competitive. The Cubs swept us in The Cell last year.
June 7, 200817 yr QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) The Cubs swept us in The Cell last year. Hence the "almost always" caveat, or did you not read that part? IIRC, the previous sweep was '99 (Sox over Cubs at Wrigley). In other words, it's usually a pretty competitive series, despite some rather lopsided match-ups over the years.
June 7, 200817 yr If those are the matchups, they are pretty favorable, I like most of the matchups. Without a doubt in my mind we will face Zambrano, always happens. Were a better team this year, last year there were a couple games vs the Cubs we should have won but our bullpen blew them and we were not hitting. Give me at the least a split 3-3 Edited June 7, 200817 yr by ChWRoCk2
June 7, 200817 yr Zambrano got knocked around pretty good today, KEMP anyone? He was throwing coolers around in the dogout after 7th inning in LA.

June 11, 200817 yr QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) Looking at the probables pitchers for both teams on both websites, the pitching matchups will be this, followed by my predictions. Danks vs Marquis SOX 7-5 Contreras vs Lilly CUBS 4-3 Vazquez vs Dumpster SOX 5-3 Contreras vs Lilly SOX 10-7 Vazquez vs Dumpster SOX 3-1 Buehrle vs Gallagher CUBS 11-8 Your turn (don't make a smarta** post, it's just a little fun). Len just said that Zambrano will be moved up so he pitches on his normal rest and Marquis will be set back so dont expect these matchups quoted here
June 11, 200817 yr Author QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) Len just said that Zambrano will be moved up so he pitches on his normal rest and Marquis will be set back so dont expect these matchups quoted here Yeah, just heard that as well. Looks like you guys called it- Lou will set it up so we have to face Z atleast once. Checking the sortable schedule on cubs.com, we'll see Gallagher, Lilly, Dempster in the 1st series, and Lilly, Dempster, and Z in the 2nd. That old, senile, ba$tard Piniella. June 12, 200817 yr We'll see Zambrano in both series. I also don't look forward to seeing our hitters chase every offspeed pitch that Dempster throws.

June 12, 200817 yr QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) Not if you use the sortable schedules. Well, Soriano was hit by a pitch tonight and it has been confirmed that it's fractured. So he's out at least six weeks. That may change some Sox vs. Cubs predictions. That's too bad. It'll just give Cubs fans an excuse when the Sox take four out of the six games.

Zambrano is #2. Count up from 1-2-3-4-5, and you'll see that Zambrano will pitch on Thursday, and we'll see their 4, 5, and 1.

June 12, 200817 yr No way we were gonna miss Zambrano. We have to beat him up. Will Thome be in the lineup?

Sortable scheduels and hyperbole do not work for this. Unless they buck this thinking which they may if he gets hit his next start he will pitch this Tuesday then face the Sox on Sunday than pitch Friday against the Sox. cubs will be on a 10 game home winning streak when they face the Sox Edited June 13, 200817 yr by Jenks Heat
June 15, 200817 yr Talked with one of my friends, who's a season ticket rep, over the weekend, and he said the season ticket plans, like the Ozzie Plans and Split Plans are selling like hot-cakes.. but he added that 9 of 10 families purchasing these plans are saying they're Cubs fans. I asked why in the world are Flubby fans buying these up, and he said it's probably so they can fill up US Cellular Field for the Crosstown Classic. It kind of threw me for a loop.. I hope it's not like home field advantage for the Cubbies..

June 16, 200817 yr True, it might be a double sweep for the Flubs. I'm impressed they dusted 2 of 3 from the Jays when the Jays kicked our ass. Even though Paulie has sucked, the absence of his bat weakens us more. Edited June 16, 200817 yr by greg775
June 20, 200817 yr Just to bump a sox/cub thread back up...... for the 1999 sox/cubs series at wrigley, does anyone remember Ray Durham hustling to 3rd from 1st on an infield ground out? It was a grounder to the 3B and Ray was on his way to second. Ray may have been on a hit run (I don't know) but he just kept running and beat the throw from Mark Grace back to the 3B. It was one of many "hustle" plays that led to the sweep that weekend. Sox won that game (rain shortened and, yes, cub fans whined about that). The series culminated in the sweep with Mike Caruso's game winning HR, which landed in the basket.
June 20, 200817 yr I'm so ready for this series. I'm not gonna play with predictions but I hope good guys get out there and leave their hearts on the field. Let's get em!
June 20, 200817 yr I remember it, I was at the Caruso basket HR game. That was glorious, and worth the long rain delay before it happened. As for this series, whether or not we win 2 of 3 or lose 2 of 3 will come down to what John Danks does tomorrow IMO. The pitching matchups are pretty good for us, and we are built to hit in that pee wee ball park.
