He is the worst and never has anything intelligent to say. It is always how it was when he played or how it is in Japan. And he keeps refering to the Cubs as THE CUBBIES! July 9, 200322 yr I will say I don't really think there is good chemistry between DJ and Hawk. Half the time one of them makes a comment the other will just sit there silent.
July 9, 200322 yr I love Hawk. What is Melton like on the radio. We don't get him here in KC. Bill was a better player than DJ, so put Bill next to Hawk a year or two.

July 9, 200322 yr you must be the only one with the problem-I don't have a problem with DJ.But I will admit that a perfect matchup with Hawk is waiting in the wings,in a few years,when he retires.Everytime I hear him do interviews on the radio he cracks me up.Who is the player-none other than Kelly Wunsch.I was listening to him talk to J.Hood tonight and thought that he'd be great next to Hawk.The guy is all personality and always cracks me up. Even though the broadcasts would then sound like two good old boys at a southern league rib roast.Now that would be great radio........... K-Y

July 10, 200322 yr as a baseball fan for 43 years, i grew up listening to some of the legendary announcers via my transister radio on my pillow i have felt for years that when we had hawk and wimpy on tv coupled with rooney and farmio in the booth, that we had the best combp of announcers in the business anywhere i like dj, but i feel he adds little to the broadcasts
July 10, 200322 yr I think Beltin' Bill Melton would be a great compliment to Hawk. DJ is alright, but I think Melton would be better with Hawk. Bringing back Wimpy would be the greatest, but that's not going to happen.

July 10, 200322 yr The whole pairing sucks because there is no chemistry. I think both of them could be good if they were separated, but as it is now they are tough to listen to sometimes. DJ tries too hard sometimes too, and it makes him sound like a fool.

July 10, 200322 yr DJ is terrible. Hawk and DJ have no chemistry, and it's painful to listen to them. For a major market like Chicago it's ridiculous we have to put up w/ people like Carey,Jackson,Arkush,etc. The best tandem in town is Foley/Tallon and no one knows it. What a shame.

I heard Mike North was seriously considered, that would have been horrible. When Seaver got traded to Boston for Psycho Lyons, Hawk was the GM.

July 10, 200322 yr Don't like Tallon - too much of a homer, beyond any reason. The next deserved Hawk penalty in his eyes will be the first. Don't like Farmer - he puts me to sleep instantly. Sounds like an NPR announcer with that monotone. It's completely insufferable to listen when he does play-by-play. Rooney's okay, despite the "radio voice". Foley is THE best Chicago sports announcer right now, as dubious a distinction as that is in Chicago. Chicago sports announcers absolutely blow.
