Sox Interested in Duchscherer

Featured Replies

Duchscherer is my favorite pitcher in baseball. I don't think the Sox have the pieces, but if they do, making this happen would be phenomenal.

What has made Duchscherer so successful this year? Look at his career numbers and try not to think aberration.

Technically speaking he's posted a career low 3 ERA at the major league level and his minor league ERA was in the middle three's. He's definitely given up fewer hits than ever in his career but as a whole his major league numbers are very good (obviously not leading the league in ERA good, but above average for sure).

I'm thinking that they'll deal Fields and convert Beckham to 3B.

Got to like a guy with a 1.82 ERA as a starter. He's a very proven reliever but another question that pops up (Question #3) is how he will handle all these innings. He missed a good chunk of last season with injuries and has never went more than 96 innings at the major league level (prior to this season).

Maybe that's what Billy's thinking. He has a reason for all of his deals.

And go third base-less next season?

Where is this on WSI? I can't seem to find it.

I know it seems that Oakland an abundance of OF, especially with them now having Murton. But I wonder if they would throw in Anderson on top of whatever prospects we have.

Yeah, he's been good as a reliever, but that doesn't convert to being a dominant starter at 30. I just want to know what changed.

Instead of posting over 35 posts a day, why don't you think before you post?

The last thing Oakland wants is bloated contracts. Even with there spot in the standings, they are rebuilding. They want young, cheap talent that will be around for a while. Contreras as no value to a rebuilding team, right now the Konerko contract is an albatross(even though I think he is going to turn it around), and Cabrera is an expiring contract(but has value to the Sox). This isn't the NBA.

Technically OC would have value to the A's as well. He could help them this season and than leave as a FA and the A's would get 2 1st round picks (Beane has often times acquired guys soley to get draft pick compensation for him). Not saying that would be the A's primary target though (nor would the Sox trade OC for a starting pitcher or at least not one named Duchscherer).

If we are talking about it on here, that means that it won't happen.

Makes sense to me. The guy is about 38 years younger than Jose and can actually pitch well.

Nice, let's trade Konerko for A-Rod now.

We have Uribe! :lolhitting

Is Fields really someone Oakland would target? He just seems like the polar opposite of a Beane type player.

well he doesn't fit with their defensive minded thought lately...but offensively, if theres a team who could care less about his Ks...its the A's....

we dont have alot to offer, but the only reason i would somewhat believe it is because they like guys that fit in their organization....id imagine chris getz, josh fields, aaron poreda and charlier haeger would all be in the discussion...potentially along with egbert and his GB ratio....

At What's the Score. Thread is called, "Sox might acquire all-star pitcher" or something like that.

btw is moronic to think that oakland would take konerko or contreras....the absolute last thing billy beane wants are old guys with long, multi million dollar deals, let alone old guys with long, multi million dollar deals that are unlikely to produce more than young guys who they control for many years

I can't say that he has just added this this season or not, but much like Loaiza, his cutter is working. He's always had a good curveball, but his success this year is all about his cutter.

But, I think this would be a good move. Danks and Floyd will be going over their season best IP this year as well and I don't think that should affect them. Duchscherer might just win the Cy Young and he'd be a great addition. We'd be 5 deep with a solid guy like Vazquez at the back of the rotation.

I'm not sure what I'd give up for him. Getz, Richard, Broadway, and Crede (maybe?)...

You nailed it right there as why we wouldnt be able to get him.

Only one of those guys would be traded (Broadway). I'd find it hard to believe the first two would be of more value to them than they would be to us.

We would not trade Crede in a pennant race.

LOL, more like Fields, Poreda, Broadway, Shelby....and possibly more.

If that's the case, I'm not so sure we'd be able to get him. We'd probably have to give up Poreda and I think he'll end up being the better SP/RP in this league then Richard will be.

I think your posting privileges need to be revoked after that one. Duchscherer is, right now, better than any other SP in the American League. Unless you have HUGE aspirations for Poreda, and if you do you might be as well, just plain crazy.

Poreda+Fields+whatever sounds like a plan to me. We'd have the best rotation in baseball by a mile.

let this thread be exhibit number 1 as to why its important to invest in the draft and to have a fruitful minor league system....the cubs and brewers were able to make themselves better very easily, while we are gonna have a very difficult time getting anything of any type of substance done
