Crede's White Sox Career Likely Over

According to Timothy Wolfmeyer of the Northwest Herald, the White Sox have cleaned out Joe Crede's locker (hat tip to South Side Sox). Wolfmeyer heard the Sox are fed up with Crede's Boras-influenced drawn-out rehab from another back injury. It seems the Sox will either use Josh Fields at third base next year or explore the market. Fields had a disappointing year at Triple A. Another option would be to re-sign Juan Uribe.

 

Crede, 30, played very little in August and September due to his back injury. He had surgery in June of last year. The White Sox were unable to trade him during spring training after agreeing to a $5.1MM salary for '08. Boras could recommend a one-year deal to allow Crede to establish his health and re-enter the market.

 

If they have indeed cleaned out his locker that's a pretty powerful message.

Joe is hurt. Don't listen to this MLBtrade rumors stuff. But, granted he might not be back. I do hope the Sox make a solid attempt to keep Uribe. Fields is not the answer. I am almost convinved that 2007 was a fluke. He hit well, but even then did not handle the defensive side very well

I think it's time for him to go. However, thanks go out to Joe for everything he's done in a sox jersey. That is if this is true.

Until he signs for 2009 and beyond, I will not say if he and his agent handled this well or poorly. But if I was Joe, under these circumstances, I'd want Boras as my agent. The Sox won't offer him a bag of peanuts with his back. Boras will find him a raise.

Could?!? Just who the hell would give Joe a multi-year deal?

Love ya and all Joe...but it's time to move on.

Why? The entire surgery fiasco that took place was a joke, and orchestrated by Boras. The rift between Crede and the Sox has centered around Boras.

Maggs. Name another agent that will land a player in the DL with a very handsome contract?

 

Would you rather have Boras as your agent, or as the agent for the team you are trying to land a contract with?

 

If my only goal was playing for the Sox, I would not even need a agent, I could just take whatever contract they offered.

I'm not blaming Crede for having Boras. I don't hold it against any player that has Boras as an agent. Baseball is a business, and players want to get paid. Boras can get that done.

 

The problem is, I'm not rooting for Crede. I root for the White Sox. Scott gave Crede advice that would best serve Boras, or at least thats what he thought. The Sox wanted one thing, and Scott and Crede choose another option, and that option clearly didn't work.

I still wanna know how the hell he was an "All Star" this year. Boras must have made all his clients vote for him in the player vote

It's another Maggs situation. Respect what he did while he was here, but don't let the door hit ya on the way out, Joe. This whole situation has been absolutely classless by him and Boras.

Additionally, I like Uribe at third. His ability to play third, short, and second will be valuable with OCab gone (allegedly). Don't know if this has changed or not since it was pretty much presented as fact earlier in the season but if not, between Uribe, Ramirez, Fields, and any potential signee/trade you're bound to find a capable mix.

.297/.338/.486/.823 in 138 ABs since taking over for Crede at 3rd. He's definitely risen to the occasion.

Uribe has been great. I want to see confirmation his locker was cleared out. That would be sort of startling. He's been a great member of the White Sox. Hate to see him go out that way.

Sounds like he has had the locker cleaned out. Usually reporters don't make statements like that unless they have pretty good intel on it. If they print BS under the guise of truth they can get shut out pretty quick.

i'm all for resigning uribe for next year, for a super utility role

 

i'll eat my crow for thinking he'd be useless for this team this year, he's been anything but useless

 

also, i'm probably the only person who's considered this, but how would a, sort of platoon between DH & RF of Dye & Abreu look for us next year, what do you guys think? obviously it would likely never happen, but just think about it

 

both players would be able to enter the lineup on a daily basis

both players would get adequate rest from playing the outfield by alternating between DH and the OF

we would be getting another left-handed bat in the lineup

 

this assumes thome isn't with the club next year, of course

 

anything that lets us keep Dye's legs fresh, i'm all ears

Thome's option is going to vest with 17 more PA, so 4 more games and he'll likely be guaranteed a contract for next year.

Good luck to Joe wherever he goes,one of my fave soon to be ex-sox players(like maggs and el caballo carlos lee)...I d like to see the sox go after adrian beltre for 3rd b,move alexei ramirez to ss and I know it s a long shot but it doesn t hurt to dream,bip roberts...lineup is leading off roberts 2b,2 swisher cf,3 beltre 3b,4 quentin lf,5 dye rf,6 konerko 1b,7 thome dh,8 pierzynski c,9 ramirez ss...what a line up!

I wouldn t be surprised,Reinsdorf is after all the owner,remember what he did to Jordan,Pippen and Jackson after they made the Bulls the greatest sports organization of the 90s?He broke them up like they were garbage,Reinsdorf=no class,total opposite of Bill Veeck.

I have been a proponent of acquiring Baldelli for some time, and though that disorder really hurt him for awhile, he's come back strong and seems to have put that in the rearview mirror, hitting .281 with a .349 OBP. He'd be an excellent 4th OF to get about 400 at bats and backup all OF positions (and if he really impresses possibly supplant Swish).

as a backup, and for only 1 yr. hes been doing good but still, dont want him starting

I'm no doctor but I don't think that disorder can ever be in the rearview mirror. He will suffer fatigue and slow recovery for the rest of his career. I don't know if there are drugs, other than steroids, that could help with that.
