Honest question, but I wonder how much it would cost to dramatically overhaul our paper currency?

too much probably. why bother? it seems like our currency was updated fairly recently.

There seems to be an update that comes through every few years, esp. lately because of how digital technology has helped counterfeiters. And there's still that court order out there declaring our money to be illegal as constructed that we have to deal with at some point.

what would that be? is someone making a big stink about the 'in god we trust' on the money?

I was going to post a picture of a Visa card as the future currency and that way people can put that religious garb on their own card instead of a piece own by a so called secular government.

No, it's that the blind have no means of telling one bill from another because all the sizes are the same (that's why other countries use different sizes for different denominations)

I don't know, but I don't see blind people doing too much shopping by themselves.

Because they can't. That's the point. "(Blind person gives cashier a $20) Excuse me, Cashier, what bill did I just give you? Oh, that was just a single, you still owe us $19."

How are they suppossed to tell if they are buying chicken or steak? What's the point of them going shopping by themselves in the first place? I'm not saying that can't be independent, but shopping, especially for expensive items, they will be bringing someone along with them. Hell, I forgot, they can't drive and only have one hand to carry stuff with.

The only time blind people need money is when they want to pay for a bus (they'd probably have a bus card) or buy some small item at a newspaper stand or something along those lines. Your whole point is that blind people have also wanted to tell the difference between 10's and 20's so they can pay the right price for what they don't know they're buying.

I'm sorry, but if your blind, you shouldn't be shopping alone.

Here's a thought. You have to braille them anyway, adding some texture. If its cheap enough, you could hide mini-RFID tags in the bills too. They would be small enough, and you could encode them in such a way that you could virtually eliminate fake currency in cash. Only issue is, I don't know what that would cost. May not be worth it.

The issue is...just making the bills different sizes is going to be a cheaper option in almost every case.

I am 99.9999% sure that bmags' post was sacrastic. I think BearSox's, unfortunately, was not.

Okay, how many blind people do you see go shopping by themselves on a regular basis? The fact that they can't tell the difference between a 1 and a 5 is the least of their problems.
