Lots of comedians with these issues.

 

Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, John Belushi, John Candy, Owen Wilson (well, stretching definition of comedian...comic actor usually)...Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, etc.

Incredibly sad.

Yeah, with his history of drug abuse it is not shocking. It does suck though. His shows were some of the best.

 

Very very sad. Just do a youtube search on him and you will find him doing standup in recent years that is dirty as hell, funny as hell. His take on golf and viagra are f***ing incredible.

He cracked me up so much. His interview last year on Craig Ferguson is creative, funny, incredible. His take on bible miracles is so damn funny.

 

This shows the power of depression and addiction. My god. This man had four blockbuster movies coming out. It's not like he was a has-been. He was HOT still. He had a 25 year old daughter. He has other kids. Depression was so great he didn't want to follow their lives and his grandkids' lives.

So sad.

Rest in peace. He was funny as f***.

Forgot Good Will Hunting, one of my Top 10 movies of all-time, maybe.

 

He was so understated and genuine in that role, and it was such an abrupt departure from most of his previous work. Few know that he was a Juilliard recruit, along with Christopher Reeve/Superman.

 

And lived in Chicago until he was 8 years old.

Robin Williams is one of my all-time favorites. Saw his standup in 08, because I fell in love with his standup in some HBO special in the early 2000s. He's absolutely hilarious. My favorite role would have to be Sean Maguire (Good Will Hunting), but he was great in so many things. Rainbow Randolph is an under-appreciated character of our time.

I love that movie, not a real big fan of Williams comedy routine but I do like a lot of his movies, Death to Smoochy, One Hour Photo and Awakenings being my favorites.

I loved Death to Smoochy as well. A well done dark comedy.

Call them cheesy, but Mrs. Doubtfire and The Birdcage are my two favorites, along with Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society and Good Morning, Vietnam!

 

Don't know why I confused Autofocus with One Hour Photo...was thinking of photography themes, I guess.

 

 

And he was excellent playing Teddy Roosevelt in the first Night at the Museum, too.

wow...i started playing it earlier this morning, then was going to come back to it and now it's being blocked by HBO/copyright battle

Robin Williams' daughter leaves social media because of mean comments from people. People can be such assholes when they are anonymous.

 

The Williams suicide is so sad. I don't know enough about depression but it must be so bad. One side of me says, here's a man who has 3 kids who do love him, all the kids are still young adults, and he really, truly should be looking forward to sharing their lives as they get married and have kids, etc. It makes me think he's selfish (sort of) for killing himself. But then I think of depression and how bad it must be and how it's not his fault for wanting out of this world.

 

The second thing is, as a human, I wonder what possessed him to walk into a room and hang himself with a belt. If he was completely sober it makes me think this was a spur of the moment decision. It must have taken him a while to die if he used a belt as a noose. He had time to reconsider and call his daughter or do something, anything. His world is full of people who didn't want him dead.

 

My conclusion is depression must be so insidiously bad that nothing logical occurs in one's head. They say there's no suicide note. He didn't want to explain anything to anybody, say goodbye to anybody, just leave the world apparently ASAP because of the pain of depression. Extremely sad. I LOVE his standup on HBO. I feel like he's a genius.

 

Just read Carrie Fisher's take on Robin Williams having nobody.

Isn't it a dad's responsibility to have his kids in his life? Why couldn't he be totally absorbed in their lives like so many on Soxtalk who live for their kids? Is celebrity different?
