Why isnt Becks an All-Star at 3B? 300 avg close to .400 OBP with developing power and a plus glove. Who cares if he is ACTUALLY elected to the game as long as he plays at an All Star level.

 

At this point in time sub-par defense and low power numbers. He does not have a plus glove although he may in a few years.

I think they said it best on Mully and Hanley this morning....BA and Wise are not players who should be on a "good" teams MLB roster... hench why BA was sent to Pawtucket....

And it's not like this is a position where no one is coming along who can challenge him either: Moustakas in K.C., Brett Wallace in Oakland if he sticks there, Dayan Viciedo in Chicago if his power develops.

Like I said, not being in NYC or Boston will keep him out of the ASG at most positions anyway, but he WILL be playing all star caliber at that position anyway, so who cares if other players are elected by fans.

Beckham is probably not going to be an allstar at 3rd base. To start off, ARod, Young, and Longoria are there for a long time, and then every year it seems like there's more than a few guys who step up and put up near .900 OPS's there. He'll need to be legitimately hitting .330+ and putting up 30+ HR a year before he's an all star there. Especially with Longoria's glove.

 

Beckham at 2b is an all star right now. The only 2b with a higher OPS than him is Zobrist.

 

I meant to convey that he's going to be an All Star-caliber player, and I'm assuming that he's not going to stay at 3B for the long-term.

 

Did all of this stem from Brian refusing to play winter ball a couple years ago? That was him, right?

Now they are scraps. In the offseason, Fields was taking over for Crede to the delight of all the Crede bashers. He was our starter with some promise. Now he's nothing but garbage on the trade market. BA also was likely to be our starter. Now we get old Kotsay for him? Scraps.

Fields wasn't worth anything this past offseason. The time to deal him was when he hit a bunch of homers and people around here thought he'd hit 50 a season. But Crede was no sure thing and KW thought Fields was a potential all star so he wasn't going anywhere unless they got Cabrera or someone like that.

 

They won't be the last high draft picks that became worthless quickly, and its not just something that happens to White Sox players.

Crede got hurt on a dive and jammed his shoulder so you never know if he would have been hurt with the White Sox, but who cares? One good think about Fields not being able to catch up to mediocre fastballs and Crede signing with Minnesota is we get to watch Gordon Beckham play baseball.

Greg...think of it this way...baseball is a below average game. Your best hitters only get hits less than 3 1/2 times per 10 at-bats. So, a GM, with FIFTY draft picks every year isn't going to hit on all of them considering some get hurt, some peak early, some might peak late, some can't get over the hump, some won't make adjustments, some get blinded by money, some get blocked by players, some can't/won't learn another pitch, some get a taste of the Show and can't perform, and so on. My point is: all GMs, including the "good" ones fail at talent evaluation from time to time. GMs are like cornerbacks...you might get burned, but you have to move on and I think Kenny has learned that lesson over the years and has become one of the top ten GMs in this league.
