Arizona Fall League

Featured Replies

Is there a reason WHY it's such a hitters league? Do more top hitters go there than pitchers.

Is it strictly arizona weather + small stadiums?

Most organizations see that their top pitching prospects have already gone the amount of innings planned for the year, so most organizations will send guys who are more borderline or need experience to have another chance to evaluate them and to work on stuff.

Most hitters dont fatigue as much as a pitchers arm that they are trying to build gradually.

Maybe Danks plays LF for a year, but I hope he's projecting to be the CF for the future.

If things fall into place, I hope the outfield is Mitchell-Danks-Rios in 2012.

There is also the Jared Mitchell factor, who projects as a star defensive CF.

For the reasons said above and the hot dry air helps a bit too. Spring training in AZ favors hitters as well. The AFL does more so because the pitchers are working on stuff and the top guys are being protected/saved.

All 3 of those should at least be able to play capable CF. It would be a drastic turn around from what we've seen since Rowand if things break right.

Yeah, I am not the type of guy who believes that most prospects turn out, but if we get anything close to potential from one of them, we are going to be set for a long time in CF.

Mitchell is a fast guy with a weak arm, I've never read he projects as a star defensive CF, he didn't even play CF in college.

He's been widely projected as a CF in the major leagues.

Friday's Game

Scoreboard

Gameday

Lambo having a real nice stretch.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him end up on the south side in a month or so...;)

Don't you think you are jumping the gun a bit on Mitchell? He hasn't done anything yet.

Thus I used the word "if".

Kyle Bellamy was added to the roster. He pitched an inning today. One walk. One K.

Based on everything I've read, he may be on the fast track.

That's very interesting. He's definitely someone that attracted some attention this year.

No one has him as their AAP either - might be worth someone's time to write up a prospect page, maybe we can arrange an interview.

I find it interesting that Sergio Santos leads the Javelinas in games finished.

Grooming him to be a closer maybe?

He certainly has the stuff to do it.

Santos is a converted IF right? We all need our own Johan/Nathan

Ugh.

Danks went 0-5 with 2 K's and an error.

CJ 0-4, also with 2 K's.

Morel went 1-4 with a walk.

Cassel & Rasner were bad. Bellamy had a scoreless inning with 2 K's.

Edited by CSF

Rasner appears to be just not up to this level of play, at least not yet.

Cassel went from taking the Southern League ERA crown in 2008, to basically looking like he has no future at all in 2009.

Shame, too. That kid performing for us would have made a hell of story.

UGH is right .

Morel 3-3 tonight.

Javelinas running away with the division. They'll be in the championship game on Nov. 21. On MLB Network.
