A cousin of mine that is a teacher in Florida says that he can see schools getting rid of books and going completely to Ipads within the next few years.

I had been saying this should be done for years, except with laptops before the tablets became big. It doesn't make sense to spend tons of money on textbooks anymore.

Lose a textbook and the cost is 1/4 of an iPad. And the textbooks rarely have active GPS tracking tags.

a lot of schools around here have ipad sets that teachers can check out for the classroom.

It's not fully there yet, but smartphone based polling/question responses (and presumably ipad based ones soon) are slowly getting integrated into higher ed courses. If I get to teach an intro course at a place that has them I'm just going to start off building courses with that in mind because its going to become more prevalent as time goes on.

My wife's doing that sort of thing but just with small whiteboards for now. It's a great tool to check class understanding during the lesson.

Why so?

Why so?

Because it doesn't work with Apple accessories. :P

I dont know, I heard it on talk radio this morning. I am going to look into it because its such a good value.

The only thing I could think of is that it depends on internet connectivity for almost everything that people must be wary of only having Wifi on it.

Any bad feedback thus far must be based purely on speculation, since not many outside Amazon have had their hands on it.

Sadly, this is likely accurate. C'est la vie.

Hell, my order is in on it either way. With that being said, I'll still probably buy the next iPad that is released, but the Kindle Fire is at a price point and functionality level that it is, IMO, WELL worth talking a $200 shot on.

Maybe. I am going to wait and read amazon reviews and then maybe cnet. You never know how it will end up until people start really using it.

Anyone have any experience installing security cameras?

What do you need to know?

What do you need to know?

I am trying to install cameras in my condo building and I was going to use wireless cameras hooked up to a dvr. I was wondering if there were any recommendations.

I don't have experience with wireless systems, but here's a Bosch guide on selecting CCTV cameras that may help in picking out lenses, types etc. Bosch is going to be top-of-the-line, but I don't think they offer anything wireless (susceptible to jamming).

My wife and I are looking to switch from Verizon to T-Mobile and looking for smartphone suggestions.

We arent looking to spend a lot of money, but I do like quality and something that wont drive my wife nuts.

For me, I was thinking of the T-Mobile® G2x (aka LG Optimus 2X), it loos like a solid phone with a clean google experience. or the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, or the HTC® Sensation 4G.

For my wife, I was thinking either the HTC Wildfire S or LG Optimus T.

Any thoughts?

Get the Galaxy and call it a day. Then again, I think they're also supposed to get the S2, so I might just wait for that. I could be wrong on that though.

So outside of what I want to do for my condo building, I am also looking for this:

I am storing my motorcycle, my scooter and sea-doo all in the garage of my house in Michigan. I wanted to set up maybe 2 IP cams in the house, one by the bikes and one by the garage to catch anyone trying to steal my s***. Does anyone have any experience with setting up webcams like that to possibly record motion footage in the cloud?

No you're right. Wait for the GS2. I have Sprint's version and it's insane.
