Sox draft signings and reporting places

Griset is looking for around a $300K bonus

Griset may have gone higher in the draft. However, the $300,000 signing bonus he was seeking presumably scared away a few teams.

Still, the White Sox may make an offer sometime this summer that will force Griset to decide between signing and beginning his professional career or playing at St. Mary's.

"It's a pretty cool decision to make," Griset said. "Right now, I don't know if the White Sox are going to offer anything or not. I was excited just to get drafted.

"It's a win-win situation. I don't think I can make a bad decision."

So where should this kid have actually been drafted, and what does his stuff look like?

From FutureSox:

Coming in at 6'1", 175, Ben Griset is not a big guy, nor does he have huge projectability, but his fastball can already hit 92 mph and he's likely to add a tick or two more to that as he fills out. Griset's best weapon is a power curveball that projects to be a plus pitch for him in the future. He's also working on a changeup. With a repertoire that includes two potentially plus pitches in his fastball/slider and an average third pitch in his changeup, you could see Griset becoming a mid rotation type starter or better. He's committed to St. Mary's and supposedly has a strong desire to attend college at some point in his life, but he has also been quoted as saying that he'll turn pro if the price is right.

I'd say probably 10-15 rounds is where he should have went from that description.

A poster over at WSI who was spot on with news regarding signings last year says that Salgado has signed.

The original report said W-S for a couple weeks, followed by a couple weeks in Charlotte and then maybe a callup. It's not like Randy Williams is blocking him.

Vispoli, MR Director of the Dash, said "Sale will be throwing a simulated game today and is expected to make his debut out of the pen on Friday if all goes to plan."

Been pretty quiet on the draft singing front, anyone heard anything?

So we are pretty much a Grimes signing away from having everyone we wanted?

I was just about to ask what the idea is on Grimes. He is considered to have some pretty good potential, but dropped because of signability issues, right?

I hope to have an update on Grimes tomorrow from my GT person

He looks great out there, I thoroughly enjoyed watching him play. He's a sweet kid with lots of questions and a willingness to to take advice he's offered. I wish him all the best!!

Well, I finally got something right. I said B. Loux would have been a health risk with our first pick, and he failed his physical!

I was so worried when BA stated at least three times the Sox were showing interest in him, that is ugly but good for us!!

No real update on Grimes, only that it's 50/50 and no decision will be made until close to the deadline.

Has anyone heard anything on Terry?

So as of today, the White Sox have signed 32 of their 50 picks. Besides Grimes and Terry as the last remaining top 10 round picks yet to sign, who else should the Sox identify to add to their minor league teams?

Ben Griset if he'll sign. They'd have to pay overslot.

I threw something together on FutureSox with some info on who's left. Link

In my research I found a post on Rivals college baseball message board from a guy claiming he has sources telling him Grimes is going to school. Link

Matt Holt knows his stuff, so it's probably true. Assuming it's true, that hurts.

Great info, thanks, let's hope this is just posturing as there are still a number of picks for all clubs that remain unsigned. We were really on the Morgado watch last year at this time. Most of the time when we are waiting on these guys the Sox have made the right call, some of the names I remember Bobby Hill, John Zeringue, Jay Mattox, Tony Richie etc........However, I still want Grimes, never can have too much pitching.

I would agree on getting as much pitching as possible, especially IF Daniel Hudson is traded.
