Biggest difference between Twins of the 2nd half and Twins thru first 2 games is Mauer and Thome were two of the best hitters on the planet since the ASB, and they've both been awful vs the Yankees so far. I'm pretty sure Mauer led the AL in hitting since the ASB, and Thome led the AL in OPS.

 

Thome wasn't very good against LH pitching this year and has had to face two really good left handed starters in Sabathia and Pettitte plus Mo who just kills lefties so his struggles aren't a surprise.

An expert on the radio said it best, the Twins are built to win the regular season but are not suited for the playoffs while the White Sox were better suited for the playoffs especially this year. The Twins pitchers are good at grinding out regular season games but do not hold up in the playoffs.

 

The way the expert put it, made much more sense to me than how I stated it.

Good point, even though I thought Thome's AB vs Robertson in Game 1 with 2 men on was terrible!

This could very well be the case. Or it could be they just don't match-up with a $200 million dollar all-star team.

Bulls***, the Rangers lineup isnt that good at all. The Twins with Morneau are much deeper than them. The Yankees are basically more stacked than any team in baseball, it has nothing to do with the divisions.

Gotta disagree with you there, Rock. When they're all healthy, their lineup 2-6 is as good or better than any other in baseball. I agree with you about the Twins, though. People seem to forget that Morneau was on his way to an MVP season before going down.

So you're saying, or this "expert" is saying, if the Sox made it into the playoffs as a WC and both Minnesota and the Sox somehow survived the ALDS, the Sox would have no trouble handling the Twins in the ALCS because it was the playoffs? Total BS. If a team can win 95 games during the regular season, its capable of winning 3 out of 5 or 4 out of 7 vs. other playoff teams if they play up to their capabilities. The Twins obviously have a mental block vs. NY.

 

There's always been a lot of talk about how the Sox are built to win and built for the playoffs. It is very curious to me considering its an organization that has won playoffs series only one season the past 93.

All too familiar. The Twins played dirty against us, and Ozzie and the umps let them get away with it. However, the umps treat it a little differently when you're throwing at A-rod or Texiera rather than Quentin or Beckham.

It will be interesting to see what the Twins organization does in the off season. Hopefully it doesn't involve getting PK.

I think their focus has to be on starting pitching. Dunseng or Dung sing or however the hell you say it as their number 3 has to worry them a bit. Plus Mr. Porn 'stache man can't be counted on to have another year like he's had.
