White Sox sign Daryle Ward and Jeff Gray

Featured Replies

Phil Rogers....

According to Baseball America, #WhiteSox have signed former #Cubs Daryle Ward and Jeff Gray to minor-league deals.

Both former Cubs, and both signed to minor league deals.

Filler....but reasonable filler...Gray especially.

Ward is old and crappy, but Jeff Gray is an interesting name. He just recently turned 29, and was terrible with the Cubs last year. However, prior to last season he put up real solid numbers in 2009 for the A's. Between AAA and the Major League team in 2009, Gray pitched 67 innings, striking out 41 while walking just 8 batters unintentionally. Gray has a career 55% GB%, which is very solid.

Okay, we don't need Konerko now, we got Ward! :gosox4:

Screw Konerko, we got our plan Zs!

Depth in the Charlotte Bullpen isn't a bad thing.

So.....this is Plan B?

So.....this is Plan B?

These are (hopefully) guys that would come up mid-season if they're having a decent year at Charlotte, someone from the big league pen gets hurt, and guys that are in Charlotte's pen who we might genuinely be trying to develop (i.e. Anthony Carter) aren't yet ready. Call it whatever plan you want. Otherwise, they're just there to win games for the knights.

Obviously, my reply should've been green.

I think Ward was signed as a solid to his father. The Sox had him several years ago and let him go to the Newark Bears I believe. He's pretty much done at the major league level. Gray has a slight chance to pitch in Chicago, but either he would have to show a lot more than he's shown recently or a lot of things would have to go wrong. These are Charlotte Knights not Chicago White Sox.

So to recap the likely non-roster invitees so far:

RHP- Brian Bruney, Josh Kinney, Jeff Gray

3B- Dallas McPherson

OF/1B- Daryle Ward

Wow, i really thought Ward was retired. I haven't heard anything from him for about three years. Gray really isn't all that awful, and i wouldn't be suprised to see him go somewhat deep into spring with this team.

Daryle Ward?? I guess he could be useful for the 9 games we play in interleague parks where we may need a PH for the pitcher. He is probably worse in the OF than CQ, I remember the Cubs tried him out in RF a few games. Pure comedy.

That pen is shaping up to be excellent now

I know, still to early to bash KW about the pen....

Jeff Gray just got married and my aunt was at the wedding. He hated Rothschild. Blames him for his arm troubles.

This didn't even warrant a thread.

We should give Daryle Ward a nickname... "Plan Q" sounds about right.
