What was the event you were thinking of?

I had absolutely no idea whatsoever. On Futurama, Leela describes the moment Bender comes flying from space into their vicinity when they were searching for him as "by a wide margin, the least likely thing that has ever happened".

And I've gotten laid a couple of times, Kyle.

Oh. When you said that your were thinking of one particular event, I figured meant that you were thinking of one particular event. It has bugged me for a while...dammit.

I hate you all and hope you burn in hell.

Those two times as a "training apparatus" at the School for Women of Ill Repute don't count.

Aside from the names being different, this suspect looks very much like the Ripper suspect from the the Alan Moore From Hell graphic novels and Johhny Depp film with Ian Holm as the Queen's royal physician by day and Ripper by night. How cool would it be if Moore's fictional account turned out to be that close to the real story?

im sure Ghost Hunters will visit it soon lol

Apparently California casinos do not allow dice games to be played. Instead, craps is played with the dealer drawing a card from each of two piles of Ace to 6. The odds are the exact same, but it takes away all the fun and the game goes way too quick.

It'd also take away dice-rolling skill and make it a completely randomized game.

Most importantly for the casinos it takes away the ability to cheat with the dice in all forms.

I'll ask a stupid question here... is there really such a thing as dice-rolling skill? Other than cheating in some fashion?

Dice-rolling skill? I wasn't aware that some people are better at rolling dice than others?

There are people who claim they are skilled enough at throwing dice to influence the outcome, but I've never seen proof.

I think those people are called compulsive gamblers.

Yeah, I saw something several years back on Discovery on it. There's a lot of physical action involved there, and you have complete control of the dice. Preset them with certain sides facing up and, through enough repetition and practice, you'll be able to throw consistently. It's not a 100% guarantee but you can really stack the odds in your favor. They also showed how dealers (or whatever the table-runner is called for craps) try to throw people off if they see them doing it. It's not illegal.

Doesn't matter if it's illegal or not. Card-counting is technically not illegal, either. But if you show enough skill to actually beat them on a regular basis because you are influencing the outcome, they will ban you.

I've never heard of someone actually being able to beat craps in this manner, however.

I'm going to spend all night at work tonight reading up on this...:)

FBI arrests 7 in Amish haircut attacks in Ohio

BERGHOLZ, Ohio -- Authorities raided the compound of a breakaway Amish group in eastern Ohio on Wednesday morning and arrested seven men on federal hate crime charges in hair-cutting attacks against Amish men and women.

Among those arrested were the group's leader, Sam Mullet, and three of his sons, said Mike Tobin, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Cleveland.

Authorities have said several members of the group carried out the attacks in September and October by forcefully cutting the beards and hair of Amish men and women. Cutting the hair is a highly offensive act to the Amish, who believe the Bible instructs women to let their hair grow long and men to grow beards and stop shaving once they marry.

The attacks struck at the core of the Amish identity and tested their principles. They strongly believe that they must be forgiving in order for God to forgive them, which often means handing out their own punishment and not reporting crimes to law enforcement.

Mullet told The Associated Press in October that he didn't order the hair-cutting but didn't stop his sons and others from carrying it out. He said the goal of the hair-cutting was to send a message to Amish in Holmes County that they should be ashamed of themselves for the way they were treating Mullet and his community.

"They changed the rulings of our church here, and they're trying to force their way down our throat, make us do like they want us to do, and we're not going to do that," Mullet said.

Those arrested were in custody and expected to be arraigned Wednesday. They include Mullet and sons Johnny, Lester and Daniel, Tobin said.

Authorities also were planning to hold a news conference Wednesday afternoon to explain why they charged the men with hate crimes, Tobin said.

Ok, so I read up on this a little last night at work, and from what I could tell (I was blocked from viewing a lot of the sites), it is impossible to pull off unless the craps dealer consistently allows one to not bank the dice off the back wall. It may be possible to master the throw so that you barely bounce off the back wall and thus minimize the randomness intended by that surface, but most dealers will force you to throw the dice (or die, I suppose) harder.

The surface of the wall they force you to bounce the die off of is made up of pyramids intended to produce a truly random result (and not allowing you to bank the die off a flat surface).

I think impossible.
