2011 Films Thread

Crazy, Stupid Love is almost an excellent film. (Also the tagline for all White Sox fans this year following this team on a daily basis...)

Not getting a lot of pub, but Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore are perfectly cast. At first it took me time to adjust to the idea of Julianne Moore in a mainstream romantic comedy like this, but she fit right in.

Couldn't recommend it enough. Gosling is becoming one of the most versatile actors of his generation. He'd done dark, romantic fluff and this, which was a little bit of the Frank TJ Mackey Tom Cruise character from Magnolia but with a redeeming virtue.

Carell wasn't quite as good as in Little Miss Sunshine, but he blows away his more "dark" performance in Life of Dan.

Can't wait to see him in IDES OF MARCH with Clooney and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Also want to see the Ryan Reynolds/Jason Bateman movie where they "switch" lives....might be decent.

I just watched Sucker Punch last night. Absolutely loved it. Anyone else? It got a 6.3 on IMDB but I think it is way underrated.

^This, really liked it. Although the fights seemed to progressively get worse. The first fight against the 3 giant samurai's was mean, so was the second one( WWII like zombies).

Are you sure it was the fights and not the sexy outfits that you liked, lol?

That movie was like teaser softcore porn on Cinemax Friday nights that was afraid to actually show any skin...strikeout for Zach Snyder on this one.

Abbie Cornish was the only actress that left any kind of a lasting impression on you.

Is it worth it to see Harry Potter in 3d?

Absolutely. It was really well done.

I'm taking my wife to see this Saturday night.

I really don't think that 3D adds much to any movie (other than Avatar). I'm pretty sure I read that Transformers 3 was supposed to have the best 3D since Avatar, and I noticed only one part of the movie where it seemingly added to the experience.

I believe it's just an old fad that's returning for a short time, and then it will fade back into oblivion.

One can only hope.

I think it just adds clarity to the screen. Mostly i believe that people expect a 3D movie to have things that pop out at you, and Avatar/Transformers didnt really have that aspect, but instead it was as if you were looking through a window instead of watching a film.

I dont think it is going to fade into oblivion, I think it just isnt going to be pushed as if it is something extremely special adding to to film. To me, watching a 3D movie like Avatar in 2D is similar to watching a movie on Blu Ray and then on regular DVD. You notice the difference when you see them both, but when you see one or the other, its no big deal

especially in the flight scenes and the fight at the end, I thought it really added to the effect.

I don't understand why the world needs a Total Recall remake. The original is still perfectly awesome in every f***ing way.

Are you referring to Avatar or Transformers? I think you mean Avatar, and I agree.

With Transformers, I only noticed anything special when they did the skydiving scene.

Kyyle, I didn't get that "window" feeling with Transformers, although I did with Avatar.

bay was forced to abandon his shaky camera effects to incorporate the 3d. that in iteslf made it worth it for me

Seriously???

both fleets are encased in a forcefield bubble?? I'm pretty sure in the "real world" (not the movies), the aliens win in about 3.2 seconds. But in the end, the humans will win

I'd love to see a remake of Brewster's Millions.

Seriously???

I'm so confused on the concept. Is it transformers of the water? Is it people in space playing REAL LIFE Battleships?

All I know is, poor Liam Neeson. He is one of my favorite actors.

Got to meet George Lucas at the EAA air show this past weekend. He's a great guy to talk to. One of the nicest celebrities ever even with the "I"ve got to go" time crunch.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on in that third picture (the second one in the large grouping)?

It looks like someone is entering a common room/cafeteria and falling to their knees.

It reminds me of the original scene when the alien burst out of John Hurts chest
