Happy for RG III, didn't even bother to watch the ceremony as ESPN spoils their own damn show days before it happens...

PSU recruits are apparently jumping ship. Word is OSU got a verbal from 5 star Tommy Schutt this weekend and expect 1-2 more from the Lions in the next few weeks.

Let's look back at some of the Illini Coaches:

Mike White: Scandal

John Mackovic: Left for Texas (smart, but ultimately, bad move)

Lou Tepper: Good guy, bad coach, bad recruiter

Ron Turner: Good coach, bad recruiter

Ron Zook: Bad coach, good recruiter

Word on Tim Beckman: Good coach, good recruiter, runs clean program (by NCAA standards, whatever those are).

No, he's not a flashy Fedora/Sumlin/Leach hire. But neither was Brady Hoke. Or Jim Tressel. Or Mark Dantonio. Or Bielema. Or Ferentz.

Someone's got to take a chance on these coaches. Why not the Illini? What's the worst that can happen? They fire another coach. Big surprise.

Beckman is a solid coach and has alot of experience under GREAT coaches. Hiring anyone from the Woody Hayes lineage is always going to be a positive move.

Ferentz and Bielema studied under Hayden Fry

Dantonio and Hoke both studied under Woody Hayes (And Bo as well) guys in Moeller and Earle Bruce

Tressel may not have been a "homerun" hire to some but he had tons of accolades before he was hired to OSU' staff:

1991, 1994 and 2002 American College Football Association Coach of the Year

1993, 1994 and 1997 Chevrolet National Coach of the Year

1994 Eddie Robinson Award

Beckman was essentially the best Assistant coach under Urban Meyer at BG. He has coached up many NFL caliber players especially defensive backs. Although not a great headline grabber, he has alot of coaching lineage and accolades to point to success at Illinois if given the right resources.

LOL so I guess all the local media stories about him staying firm to PSU during the Sandusky thing was BS.

Bill Greene expects Noah Spence and Carmen Williams to jump ship by this weekend as well.

Urban also got Pittman from MSU last night.

Koenning offered a position to stay at Illinois. Good move by Beckman if he can get him to stay.

Also VT cant sell their tickets for the Sugar bowl, solidifying why they shouldnt have been invited in the first place.

Dunn recommits. I'm hoping when the sanctions come down this week or next it doesnt ruin all this momentum.

Awesome, Koenning has been great for us and hopefully comes back. And hopefully we bring in a good OC.

Illinois along with UCLA also received the coaching exemption so Beckman can begin recruiting immediately even with the previous staff in the place.

I wonder if ESPN is going to run a story how its unfair to other teams, maybe Hoke and Brandon can give us some more quotes.

he gone

he gone

He was saying that the contract wasnt all he wanted. Luckily Beckman can coach D somewhat, i'm sure he'll bring someone in that is from one of his previous gigs.

Naturally, everyone is trying to send Rhoads to Pitt. I'd be more worried about Penn State. No f***ing way he goes to Pitt.

The PSU fans are lobbying for their entire staff to go to Pitt.

Illinois' D-Line coach is staying, so that's something. That's really been a strength the last few years, and he's supposedly a good recruiter with Florida ties.

All we need is for All-American Whitney the Mercilus to stay in school another year.

He is a guy that should be a poster child for how good the coaching has been on the d-line. He wasnt ranked as much of anything out of HS and turned into one of the best.

Paul Rhoads agrees to a ten year, $20 million extension. I guess we don't have to worry about him going anywhere for a while.

And a big congrats goes to my Alma Mater on their first NAIA National Championship. I remember being at the school when they started the program. Now they have grown from a team that couldn't beat anyone to a national champion.

Noah Spence commits to Urban. Top 5 prospect in the country. NCAA penalties are supposedly going to be released wed, hope they are what those guys expect.

Sports broadcaster Craig James will no longer work for ESPN as he runs for a U.S. Senate seat from Texas, the network confirmed Monday.

James, who frequently appeared on the network as a college football analyst, made the decision final on Monday's filing deadline, said Michael Humes, a spokesman for ESPN.

With four months left before the April primary, James made a late entry into a crowded GOP Senate race for the seat soon to be vacated by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in 2012.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, former solicitor general Ted Cruz, and former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert are among the Republican contenders vying for the seat, with some already having raised millions for their campaign war chests.

While James is a familiar name to college football fans, he'll face previous controversies bound to come up as he hits the campaign trail.

In 2009, James was tied to the ousting of popular Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach, who allegedly mistreated James' injured son, a player for the school's football team, according to media reports at the time.

"I don't think it's going to be a big issue at all because people are going to understand the truth, and the truth is we stood up for our son," James told television station WFAA, a CNN affiliate in Dallas. "We protected our son.

James also played as a star tailback for Southern Methodist University in Dallas during the early 80s.

Years later, the university was caught in a "pay-for-play" scandal that eventually led to the shutdown of the program from 1987-1988, according to The Dallas Morning News.
