September 18, 201114 yr Watching recent Red Sox baseball games is good for your heart. This is what my doctor told me. Middle of the 4th, 4-0 Rays.
September 18, 201114 yr 4-2 rays, bottom 4 Price got smoked with a line drive off the right chest area in the 3rd. Edited September 18, 201114 yr by flavum
September 18, 201114 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Rays with 4-0 lead. Looking like a 2 game lead for Boston with 10 left. Boston: 4 vs Bal 3 at NY 3 at Bal Tampa Bay: 4 at NY 3 vs Tor 3 vs NY That's quite the uphill battle for the Rays. EDIT: It's only the 4th? Why would you assume they're going to win? September 18, 201114 yr QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) That's quite the uphill battle for the Rays. EDIT: It's only the 4th? Why would you assume they're going to win? Yeah, I thought it was like the 9th or something. And losing those two games to the O's earlier this week (especially the Price vs Simon game) were killer. I hope they can pull it off. It's going to be extremely difficult. Edited September 18, 201114 yr by Jordan4life
September 18, 201114 yr Giants crushing the ball lately. They'll win today, and if the D-backs lose, they'll be down to a 4 game lead with 3 head-to-head left.

September 19, 201114 yr I don't know if this has ever happened before but all 8 playoff teams in 2011 should have 90+ wins... So nobody is really getting in there cheap.
September 19, 201114 yr Very pumped for the Boston/Baltimore doubleheader today. TB with the chance to come within 1 GB on their off day. Sweet CaroLOSE!
September 19, 201114 yr QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) I don't know if this has ever happened before but all 8 playoff teams in 2011 should have 90+ wins... So nobody is really getting in there cheap. The difference between the top and bottom of the leagues just keeps getting wider.
September 19, 201114 yr Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Elias: largest September deficit any team has overcome was 8 1/2 games,by the '64 Cardinals. The Rays were nine games behind Boston Sept. 2.
September 19, 201114 yr Buster_ESPN Buster Olney On Verlander stat of first to 24 wins/240 strikeouts since Guidry -- yes, for the AL, as some of you have noted.
September 19, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 07:10 AM) Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Elias: largest September deficit any team has overcome was 8 1/2 games,by the '64 Cardinals. The Rays were nine games behind Boston Sept. 2. All that accomplishes is that it gives people something to point to when the Sox are 7-10 games out of it next September.
September 19, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) The difference between the top and bottom of the leagues just keeps getting wider. ? But won't we have like 4 different playoff teams from last year? The Yankees, Rangers, Phillies, and Braves repeat, the Reds, Giants, Twins, and Rays step out? That's a lot more upward mobility than there is in the U.S. economy.
September 19, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 08:22 AM) ? But won't we have like 4 different playoff teams from last year? The Yankees, Rangers, Phillies, and Braves repeat, the Reds, Giants, Twins, and Rays step out? That's a lot more upward mobility than there is in the U.S. economy. The wins are concentrated at the top of of the league. That doesn't sound like much of a distribution to me.

September 19, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) As long as teams can move in and out...who cares? Because something like 10 teams every year can't.
September 19, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Because something like 10 teams every year can't. GMAFB man...the team with what was it, the 28th highest salary in MLB made the WS last year after filing for bankruptcy, and then lost to a team that was #10 in salary.
September 19, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) GMAFB man...the team with what was it, the 28th highest salary in MLB made the WS last year after filing for bankruptcy, and then lost to a team that was #10 in salary. The same cycle of teams loses every single year.
September 19, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:39 AM) The same cycle of teams loses every single year. Of course, this is simply untrue. There are exactly 4 teams in MLB that have failed to make the playoffs in the last decade...2 of them I actually have some sympathy for, the Blue Jays and the Orioles, because of what they have to compete with...but it's been made clear over the past 4 years that you can build a winner in that division despite the Yankees and Red Sox with decent management. The same teams lose each year because 2 of them are trapped behind the Yankees/Red Sox and haven't been smart enough to manage their way out of it, and 2 of them have done a horrible job of drafting, developing, and trading for the better part of 2 decades.

September 19, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) I don't think that number is right. Which team am I missing? The Nats/Expos? Probably, makes it 5 then. Same standard for them though.

September 19, 201114 yr jonmorosi Jon Morosi How good is Mariano Rivera? He earned a save vs. DOUG Drabek's team in '97 & KYLE Drabek's team on Sat.
September 19, 201114 yr Sun wrecking havoc on the outfielders at Fenway. Boston got a double on a ball that Baltimore's LF lost, Baltimore score 2 on outfield defense by McDonald that makes Juan Pierre's early season defense look stellar. Two dropped balls and one poorly timed leap. Only one of those dropped balls can be attributed to the sun. ...and as luck would have it, McDonald gets one of those runs back with a solo shot. Edit: Another misplayed fly ball leading to Boston's second run. Looks like the OFs are just throwing themselves in the general direction of any ball hit deep. 6-2 O's.
