April 6, 201114 yr nice to win games when they had absolutely no business winning against a streaking team. Ugly, but got it done
April 6, 201114 yr One of the uglier wins in recent memory. The defense was deplorable. Like REALLY, REALLY bad. But the team showed a lot of heart. And I'm a couple weeks away, maybe less than that, in becoming a full-fledged believer in TCQ and not WTFCQ.
April 6, 201114 yr Would like to see AJ and Thornton start to work inside to batters more often, Butler and the guy from Hawaii got all outside pitches, so it's a little easier for them to flick at a 98 ball when they only have to cover it
April 6, 201114 yr This is what you call winning ugly. 4 errors and a win in extras? Unheard of unless the other team makes more errors than you. Thank you Mike Aviles for your terrible fielding at 3B! He literally kept that 9th inning rally going. Edited April 6, 201114 yr by chw42
April 6, 201114 yr Good win and bad game all in one. The Sox don't face the Royals now for the next 81 games. See ya July 4th, pesky bastards.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Good win and bad game all in one. The Sox don't face the Royals now for the next 81 games. See ya July 4th, pesky bastards. They'll be on their usual pace to lose 95 games by then. You can't outrun the talent you have on the team. You just cant'...especially in a 162 game season.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) They'll be on their usual pace to lose 95 games by then. You can't outrun the talent you have on the team. You just cant'...especially in a 162 game season. anyone know what their plan is with their top prospects? Are they planning on bringing them up when the certain arb deadline hits, usually in June sometime if memory serves me right? By July 4th they could have a lot of talent on the team, maybe not ready to win consistently on the MLB level, but certainly a lot of talent. At this point, the Royals could start all their reserves for a series and they'll give the Sox a run for the money, they just seem to be "that team" against them.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Started watchign the game in the 7th inning, take full credit for the win. Me too. Turned it on when it was 5-0 KC. Then Castro hit the HR to get it all started. Edited April 6, 201114 yr by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Me too. Turned it on when it was 5-0 KC. Then Castro hit the HR to get it all started. Same here. I got back from a doctor appointment just in time for the 7th inning. Man, with 2 outs in the 9th I was really down. Crazy inning.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) Says it all From the looks of it, Quentin had a WPA near .8 with that double. Atta boy Carlos!
April 6, 201114 yr I am going to try not to let the bullpen struggles get in the way of the wonderful fact that we won.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) I am going to try not to let the bullpen struggles get in the way of the wonderful fact that we won. Defense and some base running were the real culprits in this game. Ohman, while he did allow a BB, defense let him down, not exactly what a struggling pitcher needs. Thornton I'm not worried about in the long run, would love to see him pitch inside a little more though. Sale pitched over a bad error by Morel and Humber went 2 with no ERs. Not great, but ultimately the pen kept them in and won this game, 7 innings 2 runs 1 earned Edited April 6, 201114 yr by SoxFan562004
April 6, 201114 yr Can't overlook the Sox were down 3 runs with 2 out and nobody on in the 9th against Soria. That alone makes this a great win. Edited April 6, 201114 yr by flavum

April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:12 PM) I am going to try not to let the bullpen struggles get in the way of the wonderful fact that we won. 7 innings and 1 earned run from the pen today, not exactly struggling. Yes, Matt allowed the one in a save situation but overall the pen was great today.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Started watchign the game in the 7th inning, take full credit for the win. I started watching when Brent Morel was at the plate in the 12th inning. Good win though. We needed it. Edited April 6, 201114 yr by WinorDie88
April 6, 201114 yr Thornton really didn't make any bad pitches in the 9th today. Butler hit a good pitch down and Kila simply reached out and poked a pitch out of the zone for the double. The hitters adjusted to him, he just has to adjust back.
April 6, 201114 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Thornton really didn't make any bad pitches in the 9th today. Butler hit a good pitch down and Kila simply reached out and poked a pitch out of the zone for the double. The hitters adjusted to him, he just has to adjust back. The hit Kila had was a bloop but it wasn't a good spot for Thorntons fastball. That pitch was too far down in the zone which allowed Kila to poke it into left field, if Matty throws that pitch at the letters it's a He Gone.
