June 7, 201114 yr This is seriously Jared Mitchell all over again except Mitchell was playing at the division 1 level.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) From Sickels. Well there you go. KW and his Stanford football athletic mentally wins over pure baseball logic. MOMMY MAKE IT STOP.
June 7, 201114 yr "Scouts say he needs to cut down on his strikeouts"..........umm.....cool? Not to worry. The Sox are great at getting guys to cut down on their strikeouts!
June 7, 201114 yr Author Winners so far: D-backs, Nationals, Royals, Red Sox, Rays, Brewers Losers so far: Padres, Dodgers, Cardinals, White Sox
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Well there you go. KW and his Stanford football athletic mentally wins over pure baseball logic. MOMMY MAKE IT STOP. No wonder we are rated so low in minor ratings.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) At least this isn't a safe pick. Has got good on-base skills (.500+ OBP) and top-of-the-line speed (65 SBs to 3 CSs). Clear boom or bust. It's not a safe pick, but it's not a "sexy" pick either. This is a guy with 4 homers in 216 at-bats while striking out 45 times at the Juco level. This is a guy we could have gotten with our next pick at 80 most likely. Ugh, another year of garbage front office drafting.
June 7, 201114 yr Based on Sickels' review, I don't think he would have lasted til our second-round pick. I actually like this kid's tools, but our track record with raw, toolsy outfielders makes you think he will be more bust than boom.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) From Sickels. Makes me feel a little better, but on MLB Network they said he had above-average speed, not blazing speed.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) Based on Sickels' review, I don't think he would have lasted til our second-round pick. I actually like this kid's tools, but our track record with raw, toolsy outfielders makes you think he will be more bust than boom. Sox have developed so many OF prospects...............Reed, Anderson, Sweeney, KW jr etc ............I dislike this selection. Edited June 7, 201114 yr by Soxfest
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) I'm going to ask Keith Law about this atrocity of a pick. The Sox could have gotten Gerrit Cole at 47th and Law would find a fault in the pick.
June 7, 201114 yr Author It can only get better from here, though. Tomorrow we draft Ozney Guillen! Probably in the 5th round.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) The Sox could have gotten Gerrit Cole at 47th and Law would find a fault in the pick. You are correct sir!
June 7, 201114 yr Total let down, at least it was not some overdraft of a college pitcher. It is interesting that on the mlbnetwork, they stated above average speed and Sickles says he's an 80......................
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) The Sox could have gotten Gerrit Cole at 47th and Law would find a fault in the pick. We could have gotten Cole at 47 at this board would flame him and our front office.
June 7, 201114 yr Lets just hope for the best, plenty of solid MLB players werent top rated guys. Sox have a really bad track record so i wont hold my breathe.
June 7, 201114 yr QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) We could have gotten Cole at 47 at this board would flame him and our front office. Sox deserve 100% of all the flaming they get on draft issues!
June 7, 201114 yr The board has been pretty positive regarding our first round picks the last few years
June 7, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) We could have gotten Cole at 47 at this board would flame him and our front office. We wouldn't take Cole. Too expensive.
