September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) 4 years for a pitching coach? Jesus, that is like a 10 year deal for a player. That just doesn't happen. I guess that shows what "people in baseball" actually think of the guy, no?
September 27, 201114 yr Don Cooper getting a 4 year extension is fantastic. He's been the ace up our sleeve for awhile, now.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 06:38 PM) I can't see Harold anywhere else. I like Harold, but it sounds like we'll be getting a younger guy in at manager. We need a veteran bench coach.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) I guess that shows what "people in baseball" actually think of the guy, no? I'm sure it is just further proof that Kenny Williams is in over his head by signing such an obviously mediocre pitching coach to a long term deal.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) To me, the most exciting part is the hope that a new hitting coach will get some of our core players back on track. For someone like Beckham, next year has to be a make it or break it year and the hitting coach excuse can't be used anymore. Same goes for Dunn...if he struggles next year, he's going to be out of baseball. I'm not saying a hitting coach can save either of these guy's career...but it's worth a try. I hope the new guy wants to give Laker a chance, as he deserves it.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) I wonder if and when the Marlins and White Sox play interleague games, will Ozzie order his pitchers to plunk Done and Rios for getting him fired. That would be funny. Ozzie will tell everyone he's going to do so and then will fail to do so.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Going to be Coop managing last two games. We can only hope he does a post game press conference.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Don Cooper getting a 4 year extension is fantastic. He's been the ace up our sleeve for awhile, now. This does significantly raise my confidence level in Philip Humber for next year.
September 27, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Going to be Coop managing last two games. I thought the rumor of Cora coaching seemed a bit odd since he was pretty much of a lock to be leaving too.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) This does significantly raise my confidence level in Philip Humber for next year. I'm actually very high on Axelrod.
September 27, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) BSLillibridge Brent Lillibridge I've only know #whitesox baseball with Ozzie, on to a new chapter for Chicago. Gonna miss all the Spanglish. That last sentence is great.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) I can't see Harold anywhere else. He'd have to move to get somewhere else.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) I'm actually very high on Axelrod. I said it yesterday in the game thread, but if Zach Stewart isn't careful, he will be the one in Charlotte next year, and not Dylan.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Going to be Coop managing last two games. Is that confirmed? Damn, was hoping for Omar. Figured it couldn't upset Coop since he just signed a long deal.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Is that confirmed? Damn, was hoping for Omar. Figured it couldn't upset Coop since he just signed a long deal. Merkin and Ranger have both said it now.
September 27, 201114 yr Cooper, who hasn't managed in the Sox's system, will be assisted by first base coach Harold Baines. The decision means that Sox bench coach Joey Cora likely will join Guillen in Florida. Cora lives in South Florida in the offseason and has interviewed for several managerial positions.
September 27, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Is that confirmed? Damn, was hoping for Omar. That would have been great. There hasnt been a player manager in a very long time. It would have been kinda like "f*** it, it's two games, let's have some fun with it" Edited September 27, 201114 yr by Athomeboy_2000
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) I said it yesterday in the game thread, but if Zach Stewart isn't careful, he will be the one in Charlotte next year, and not Dylan. I have no problem with this. Stewart has never spent a full season above AA.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:16 PM) I said it yesterday in the game thread, but if Zach Stewart isn't careful, he will be the one in Charlotte next year, and not Dylan. Dylan is one of those guys with very effective stuff that was under the radar like Dan Hudson. Whippy arm action, disappearing breaking ball.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Hope Coop sticking around means Mark sticks around. Twas all about the money beforehand, remains all about the money (unless M -56 desides to call it quits completely).
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Dylan is one of those guys with very effective stuff that was under the radar like Dan Hudson. Whippy arm action, disappearing breaking ball. Dan Hudson was not under the radar.
September 27, 201114 yr QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Cooper, who hasn't managed in the Sox's system, will be assisted by first base coach Harold Baines. On the Score, they said Kenny told Cora to not even show up at park tonight.
