Not only is Span a White Sox killer, but he also gets injured right before a series against the Tigers and misses the whole series.

Roberto Hernandez (Fausto Carmona) starts Wednesday vs Angels.

5-spot given up in the 2nd inning.

That is a run every three games or so if you base it on the 27 run differential.

Freep Tigers ‏@freeptigers

This adds to Tigers lead in unearned runs allowed. They've allowed league-high 58 unearned runs. White Sox have allowed league-low 21.

Besides the fact that the Tigers pitching staff has been worse (and I think is worse, all things considered, though they are pretty close), they've also allowed ~40 more runs that weren't the pitcher's fault than the White Sox. That exasperates the problem, forcing pitchers to work more than they have to and giving up runs they should have never given up.

You don't have to look at anything else, that alone is the difference in the standings.

Yep. Adding on say 10-15 pitches to pitch over an error, can show up later in the game for sure. It almost means you are probably going one guy deep into the pen too. All around the defense hurts more than just the unearned runs.

3 of the last 4 years he had been awful. I don't think a name change will suddenly make him a good pitcher.

The Indians suck so hard.

Predictably, the Royals dropped 2 of 3 to Tampa. It's automatic that good teams beat them 2 of 3 minimum.

Automatic. Just like a week ago when KC won 2 of 3 from Oakland. Just like in June when KC swept a 3-game series vs. Tampa. Just like in May when KC swept a two-game series in Texas. That doesn't even count the 4-game splits with Baltimore & the Yankees. Automatic!

Come on Anaheim. You miss Verlander & Fister. Win that damn series. (Although Pujols left the game yesterday w/ a calf strain)

Miggy just left the game. Nothing obvious as to why....

DETROIT (AP) — Miguel Cabrera has left Detroit’s game Thursday against Toronto in the second inning with right ankle soreness.

The slugging third baseman appeared to grimace as he rounded first after flying out to right field in the first, but he went out to his position to start the second. After the second out of the inning — a routine popup to first baseman Prince Fielder — Tigers manager Jim Leyland and a trainer went out to check on Cabrera.

Cabrera then walked off the field and was replaced at third by Ramon Santiago.

Cabrera is hitting .326 with 31 home runs and 105 RBIs and has worked his way into the MVP discussion. He hasn’t missed a game this year.

as much as i do not hope for injuries i really wouldnt mind seeing miggy out for a duration of time. however, it does not sound to be to serious of an ankle injury at this time

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this is just a day off while starting every game. He'll be fine tomorrow night.

i cant help but think you are spot on with this

Tigers down 2-0 in bottom of 8th. 2 on, 2 outs. Boesch vs Oliver

RBI single for Boesch. 2-1, prince uP.

Wild pitch by Oliver. Tie game. Nice job, Darren.

Leyland made it official...Verlander moved up to Tuesday, then next Sunday night against the Sox vs Chris Sale.

Breaking Bad will have to wait an hour.

That's must watch baseball. ESPN made a great move by moving that game to the Sunday Night slot.

Motown worried about Cabrera's ankle. It doesn't seem serious (perhaps a sprain) but if it hasn't gotten better for 3 weeks, it isn't going to get better playing on it every day.

Miggy already had one bad ankle, but now it's the other I believe.
