There is no way Jeremy Schaap has ever played a competitive sport after watching the Klinsmann interview.

Schaap: "It will be a surprise you think if you advance?"

Klinsmann: "No, No......."

The guy is a World Cup champ, coached a team to a 3rd place finish, won a lot of club competitions and you ask him if he thinks it will be a surprise?

Nice work ladies! I’ll be curious to see if they are invited to the White House and if they actually go. If they don’t, it’ll be a huge statement for a national team not to go. And yes, I went there.

  • I was looking for the soccer thread and couldn't find it. This team is so awesome to watch. They are like the 90s Bulls.

This was the major topic of conversation at lunch yesterday. I'm happy for Mexico, sad for us. Everything has to go our way to advance. I can't wait for the games to begin.

Its not as bad as it couldve been. At least we play the Germans last, theyll be fresh off skullf***ing Ghana and should have it wrapped up. They wont sit half their team (and even if they did theyd still probably win) but we should get a goal or two on them with nothing to play for.

Ghana is must-win. Have to find a way to beat them. The USMNT does that and theyre actually looking OK. Draw Portugal and dont get clobbered by the a Germans. Oversimplification yea, but all is not lost.

Ghana isnt a must win. It's just a must-not-lose.

Given the remaining schedule it's pretty damn close.

I don't see them advancing without a win against Ghana. I agree it is possible with a tie, but it seems really unlikely. A loss pretty much ends the chances.

Notre Dame won the men's college soccer championship with a 2-1 win over 3-time champ Maryland.

Their best player, Harrison Shipp, is expected to be signed by the Fire soon. He was in their academy and they have the rights to him.

Good win for the Big East over the ACC. Wait, what?

If you can't beat 'em, add 'em to your conference.

León beat America to win Mexico's Primera Division League championship this past Sunday, 5-1 aggregate...interesting side note, León's goal keeper is William Yarbrough, who was born in Mexico but both of his parents are American citizens, he has dual citizenship so essentially he can play for either Mexico or the US. He has been a sensation since starting for León this past season and was an absolute beast in the playoffs. I wonder if he's in Klinsmann's radar, there's talk of Mexico calling him up to play for la Seleccion.

I'm sure he's on Klinsmann's radar but he's expressed no desire in playing for the USMNT. He's stated in interviews that he is Mexican and feels Mexican. I'm sure if he never gets involved with the Mexican team he'd consider if the US called, but I think it's safe to say he is all Mexico

Not to mention the US goalkeeping situation is on lock down for years to come. Howard followed by Guzan. This is the first I've heard of this guy, but he's far more likely to play for Mexico.

He'd be in the next wave after Guzan fighting for 2022 WC with Sean Johnson, Bill Hamid and Cody Cropper. We have excellent goalkeeper depth at the moment but we need a younger player or two to step up because none has been overly impressive thus far. Guzan probably is done after the 2018 World Cup.

I don't have a team I root for, but I really dig the weekend morning Premiership games on NBC Sports. I am awake anyway, nice to have some love sports on.

I am thrilled that ESPN didn't get the extended coverage contract. NBC has done such a wonderful job of showcasing the entire league, rightfully giving the bigger clubs more run, but not completely smothering. ESPN would have been all about the two Manchester teams, a little to CFC, Liverpool and Arsenal and rest of the league be damned.

Camp Cupcake training camp roster released today. Happy to see 3 U-20s get their first shot. Yedlin and Gil in particular

I'm curious to see Klute. We need left backs badly. I haven't seen much of him at Colorado, but I've heard good things.

Michael Bradley appears set to transfer to Toronto FC. To say that is an awful move and that it makes Clint Dempsey's look good would be a massive understatement

Sounds like Toronto offered a LOT of money. Reports have transfer fees and salaries for Defoe and Bradley at north of $100M in total investment.

I'm hoping that, if true, Toronto immediately loans Bradley out (as Seattle has with Dempsey) to keep him sharp in a World Cup year.

The fact of the matter is that if Bradley was getting squeezed out at Roma, it's an awful year for him to not be playing. You would think plenty of clubs in top leagues would be interested in Bradley though.

Bradley is the most important player for the USMNT. To have him move to Toronto is... not great.

Supposedly a bunch of clubs have now contacted Roma and are in a fight for him, including Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen, Schalke, PSV Eindhoven and now Sunderland is back in the mix. I think I'd prefer Schalke or Bremen but any of those 5 would be preferable to Toronto

Edit: Nevermind. Italian press reporting Bradley removed from tonight's Coppa Italia lineup and his Italian reps confirming deal to Toronto is done. f***.

Suarez is unbelievable to watch.

This is hardly the highest level of soccer, but still something I've never heard of before:

CONCACAF Women's U-20 championship. Top 3 teams advance to World Championship. Third place game between Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago ends regulation time tied 3-3. Costa Rica scores 4 goals in extra time to win 7-3.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bit of club history made today. 11 clean sheets for our keeper Fraser Forster, beating the old record of 10 set in 1922.

There you are now. I'm glad I could make your day. :)
