Some amazing Copa America matches tonight. And Chile got robbed twice vs Mexico in their tie. Two goals taken away for offsides that were wrongly called.

Nice work ladies! I’ll be curious to see if they are invited to the White House and if they actually go. If they don’t, it’ll be a huge statement for a national team not to go. And yes, I went there.

  • I was looking for the soccer thread and couldn't find it. This team is so awesome to watch. They are like the 90s Bulls.

Really? It happens sometimes. Serious injuries, etc.

I admit I don't watch a ton of soccer, but the most I've ever seen is 6.

It happens from time to time, especially if there was some sort of pause for crowd problems, but from the account I read, the 8 minutes of added time were bulls***.

It's odd for the hosts to get screwed like that.

Clint Dempsey might get a 3 month ban for ripping a ref's book yesterday. If the USSF bans him, he'll be out for the Gold Cup.

so ripping up the ref's book is a 90 suspension but beating up your 17 year old nephew and taking the ussf van out for a joyride while drunk is only worth a 30 day ban....

Neymar will be suspended for two games for attempting to headbutt a Colombian player yesterday after the game. Bacca also got a red for shoving Neymar afterwards. Crazy stuff.

Brazil is really screwed without Neymar.

yeah they are. they were screwed already before losing Neymar.

Brazil is really bad by their standards right now. Some guest on Sirius this morning said this might be the worst generation of players in Brazil's history.

Should be a wild and wide open knockout stage in Copa America.

They lack a true and outstanding striker. Them losing Diego Costa to Spain was a big deal. Roberto Firmino's an attacking mid and he's playing as their #9 right now. They have a bunch of wingers and attacking mids. On paper, their defense is solid, but you never know what will happen when David Luiz plays.

Dempsey suspended 3 games by MLS. So he will be back for the Gold Cup and will be eligible for the friendly vs Guatemala on 7/3.

Good to hear.

well the USSF might be back tracking a bit now. They are waiting to see how the US Open Cup people punish Dempsey.

Perfect time for Klinnsman to give the armband to Bradley.

Mexico out of the Copa America, they had a B Team playing though.

Enner Valencia doing well for Ecuador, hoping he can replicate that sort of form for West Ham this season, because he has a lot of raw talent.

Copa America quarter finals field is set.

Biggest matchup will be Argentina v. Colombia. Chile should get to the finals, they have no excuse not to. If they win against a decent, but not all that dangerous Uruguay team, they'll have to beat either Peru or Bolivia to get to the final. Meanwhile, Argentina and Brazil will have to play against each other in the semis.

US Womens Team would be pretty happy about Australia knocking out Brazil today I'd imagine.

That's the opposite half of the bracket from the US, and that half still has Japan, England and Canada so Brazil was hardly the favorite to get through to the final anyway.

I imagine he was saying it makes the US look good because they beat Australia 3-1.

so I made a wager in the Norway-Canada WWC match and watched it. my gosh, what a slopfest. I dont know how anyone can find this sport even slightly entertaining.

It's pretty clear that the teams aren't used to playing on the faster turf surface and are having a hard time judging the right touch on longer passes.

Gold Cup rosters have been released.

I was really hopping for Jordan Morris to make the roster, but we're stuck with Wondo again...

I was thinking the same thing but let's face it, if we need to use Wondo or Morris then we are in bad shape since that is the 4th striker/forward spot.

A bit, but I didn't even know what the brackets were (shows how much attention I've been paying it really).

lol

Argentina v. Colombia did not disappoint. One of the most physical and intense games I've ever seen.

I disagree. Having Morris or even Agudelo on the roster gives us a speed weapon we could play on the wing, unlike any other forward we are bringing. I'm over Wondo, waste of a roster spot IMO.
