November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) Cards has asked the Sox for permission to interview McEwing. So wait...we hire the guy to be 3rd base coach, and now the Cardinals are interviewing him for their managerial opening? How could the White Sox possibly wish to promote such an unexperienced guy!!! This would be the shortest tenure as a White Sox coach ever...
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Lol, can we just get Coxsy back? At least he was very entertaining. No please, McEwing is very valuable to this team next season.
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) No please, McEwing is very valuable to this team next season. lol
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 02:33 AM) So who becomes 3B coach? Chances are McEwing is the 3rd base coach. If he gets the STL job, how about Sandburg. Its time to poke the lion.
November 3, 201114 yr McEwing is the one guy I am most excited about on the staff. He has had great reviews from everyone who played for him.
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) McEwing is the one guy I am most excited about on the staff. He has had great reviews from everyone who played for him. Agreed.
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:55 AM) lol WHy is that funny? Apparently you know nothing about his pedigree in coaching. He is by far one of the best managerial candidates coming out of the minors in all of baseball.

Exactly, and it's too bad he's being put into one of the coaching positions that's considered less useful than all others but first base coach.
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Exactly, and it's too bad he's being put into one of the coaching positions that's considered less useful than all others but first base coach. Its considered that way because of who people have been hiring for that spot. Many managers coached bases and had influence on their teams. He will still be in the clubhouse working with the players day to day.
November 3, 201114 yr Im not sure how you can say what position is most important without knowing how Robin and Co will handle things. Just because a 3b coach generally does not have much responsibility, does not mean that Robin wont be talking with McEwing when the Sox are on defense and allowing McEwing to actually make an impact in the game by controlling 3b. Id say that more games are won and lost based on 3b coach decision, than a bench coach whispering sweet nothings into the Managers ear. (edit) Exactly Rock, hell be on the bench every half inning, its not that hard to discuss future strategy or hell, he could even have signs to the dugout on who he thinks should pinch hit. 3b is one of the only coaches that has a direct impact on the game. November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Exactly, and it's too bad he's being put into one of the coaching positions that's considered less useful than all others but first base coach. I think I said it earlier, but I would have been OK with his being hired as Mgr.
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) Its considered that way because of who people have been hiring for that spot. Many managers coached bases and had influence on their teams. He will still be in the clubhouse working with the players day to day. And for that, I'm thankful. But I definitely think he was deserving of bench coach well over Parent. Ventura made that decision, though.
November 3, 201114 yr It might have been a case of who do we have to put where to get them all to join the staff. McEwing was already with the Organization. Probably was easier to sway him to take the 3rd base coaching job than it would have been to get Parent to leave his managerial job in the Phillies system. So they give Parent the more "important" job to sway him to leave his old role.

I would have been underwhelmed by the choice, but it would be a step up at this point, IMO.
November 3, 201114 yr I look forward to seeing how ST is run this year. I've been impressed with how Cora runs things the last few years, it's a tight ship.

November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) I've been incredibly unimpressed with the results from ST the last couple years. not necessarily a function of the work put in during ST. Sox (did) run a great camp.
November 3, 201114 yr I was impressed by the team of coaches all helping during what little I have been around professional baseball teams. It was not like there was a resource standing there saying, hell it ain't about rounding third, so I got nothin' to say. It may be where he stands for part of the game, but it shouldn't limit his, or any coaches contributions.
November 3, 201114 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) not necessarily a function of the work put in during ST. Sox (did) run a great camp. Well whatever it is, the team has come out of camp the last 2 years looking like absolute garbage, to the point that April has legitimately destroyed 2 seasons. So if they're running a great camp...maybe we need to try a terrible camp. I'm only half joking.
