Cost-controlled, impact talent...

For those like myself that have chastised this organization without remorse the last 2-3 years for the complete inability to produce young, cost-controlled, impact talent the last decade or so - NOW WE'RE TALKING!!! It's about f***ing time. In Sale, Viciedo and Reed - we're looking at a potential #1 starter with Xbox on speed type stuff, a run-producing offensive beast god who deposits missiles all over the damn place and a Craig Kimbrel like android in which you know once he enters the game that it's time for hitters to bend over and take it like a porn star.

These three are cheap and belong to us for the next X amount of years. That's how you build a juggernaut and go on a sustained run. This is the new-age way of running a successful baseball operation. I am for now very please.

I still have concerns about Sale's health, but yeah, it appears the White Sox finally have some cheap and young talent around.

It's the only thing that will stop him from being an ace in the this league. Unfortunately it is a legitimate concern.

I have been very high on Viciedo for the last few years, yet didn't bother to post in the "Viciedo isn't worth the wait" thread because I couldn't add anything other than "damn give the kid a chance" . It's still too early to make any "I told you so" statements but the early results are encouraging for the players you mentioned.

The remarkable thing of course, is that this cost-controlled, impact talent was being built up while the Sox had the worst farm system in the big leagues for a number of years. And none of it was really acquired in firesale type deals.

It's not just the sample size results, it's the fact that these 3 are elite level talents. Just fantastic, fantastic talents.

Can throw De Aza in here as well. Not a youngin but he'll be here on the cheap for a while.

De Aza is the newest scrap heap turned gold acquisition by KW.

I understand what you're saying, but Sale and Viciedo have been part of this organization for the last 2-3 years.

We had nothing coming through the system the past few years, yet produced this trio.

That is true, but the last three years at the big league level yielded no post-season appearances. We could have used some help.

This, of course, is not for lack of talent at the big league level.

Which is something of a trend for the Sox. In 2007, they had nothing in the system, they had no future, then Quentin, Danks, and Floyd snapped off seasons that carried them to the playoffs.

One might think that the Sox's system is being regularly underrated based on this pattern. I believe the Sox have the most WAR out of their 2008-2010 drafts out of anyone in baseball.

Marty, you're going to have to lie back and wait in the weeds to strike again.

Not even bringing up Molina's struggles are going to help your cause when they're on a blistering 14-5 run and Chris Sale's (for now, while healthy) drawing comparisons to Randy Johnson, and doing it more successfully at a younger age.

Dave Wills pointed this out, that no other team has come close to having the major league impact so far of Reed and Sale at the major league level (from the 2010 draft).

Then you add in Viciedo, and if Mitchell had stayed healthy, you'd have four impact players arriving almost simultaneously.

And then throw in Beckham (and if he's ever healthy enough, hopefully someday Morel) and the Sox will be getting solid, cost-controlled contributions from their 2008 draft as well.

I'll avoid mentioning what happened to the 5th round pick that year.

I don't know why you keep alluding to the 14-5...they've won 10 of 11...sounds better to me :)
