Taylor Phinney (son of two Olympic medalists) gets 4th in the men's TT to match his 4th in the road race. Must be very frustrating to just miss a medal twice, but very impressive results for a 22 year old. The top 8 made the team final and get a reset on their score (for some dumb reason). In the team final, the US dropped 6 points from its first place qualifying score and China moved up 6 points from its 6th place qualifying score. So China had a bad day in qualifying for all-around and events, but had a great day on the team final day. The US was the opposite. An organization that claims to care about the integrity of the sport, but instead just prints money by taking advantage of athletes they don't have to pay. He's 6'10" with shooting range and decent ball skills. He can stick in the league. That was a really exciting finish, but GB didn't have enough. Shouldn't they get the same punishment as the Chinese, South Korean and Indonesian badminton womens' doubles teams?? I think that badminton actually got a lot more coverage than it ever would have because of this round robin debacle, but not for the right reasons. It's a bit like table tennis, where China is so dominant but it's almost never shown on t.v., and yet, if you were China, every single match of badminton (men's and women's singles, doubles, mixed) is shown like it's the Super Bowl. Feel sorry for the woman who claimed she was retiring, as she is the best in the world and her country and badminton commissions and the government are all coming down hard on her but not the coach. This has happened 20 some times in international player, out of about 80-90 times, where the two Chinese teams deliberately are coached to figure out a way to avoid each other until the finals, then both teams go all out to beat each other in the end. But lots of walkovers are ordered by the government when two Chinese players meet in early rounds.
