Morisi still trying yo find where confirms talks between SEA and SF. Guess well know for sure once this game ends.

League on the mound for his last appearance as a Mariner

Not a great outing, but maybe he had other things on his mind.

The one man rumor mill lives on! If Floyd is going somewhere it better be for a substantial piece back, I would be nervous with our current rotation minus Gavin. But who knows, the Liriano move could mean the Sox are offering Humber or Floyd to the highest bidder.

That could backfire. Coop has to fix Liriano on the fly instead of Spring training.

I'll take that any day of the week.

I wonder how many M's fans like to rearrange the letters in Mike Carp's last name to spell Mike Crap. I'd prolly do that if I rooted for the Mariners.

Williams was quoted as stating that the Sox have identified some quick modifications to make that will yield immediate results. Seeing Cooper work his magic before ( since... What... Loiza??? ) I wouldn't doubt it one bit.

Bring it on.

You must like Nate Jones

KC at Seattle: 5 total runs scored through 6 innings, and then 7 combined in the next 2 (so far).

Who would you guys say is the most credible reporter out there regarding trade rumors?

Nightengale?...Buster?...Rosenthal?

Night has very good sources within the White Sox organization. Not as good in other areas.

Mariners and Giants games both 3 outs from being over.

One of the big points of Liriano is he provides the Sox with a lot more depth in the rotation. He might also provide them with a front line pitcher (depending on if he pitchdes up to his capabilities). But the big thing is he's a quality arm that gives the Sox the ability to rest Q/Sale and/or sustain another injury to the rotation. In a perfect scenario, the Sox have 7 good starters (with Humber, Liriano, Q, Floyd, Danks, Peavy, and Sale).

agreed. given that q and sale are in uncharted territory i thought it was essential to add another starter, at a minimum to eat innings down the stretch and rest those guys. to get someone with this kind of potential upside for pretty much nothing is a great move.

Games are final. Let's see if something happens now.

Brandon League warming up, per @shannondrayer. That would suggest no trade imminent.

5:18pm - 29 Jul 12

Shannon is a beat writer for SEA. Maybe if this doesn't happen soon, Seattle is waiting to see how Gavin does tonight before they pull the trigger on the blockbuster that brings Felix and League!! The more it drags on the better maybe. And clearly this is wishful thinking but who the heck knows.

Seattle doesn't want Gavin Floyd.

Per MLBTR:

2:36pm: The Giants have serious interest in Jonathan Broxton, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio reports (on Twitter). Interest on Broxton is picking up and there's a 60-70% chance he'll be traded by the deadline, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports (on Twitter).

Maybe they have moved on from League, either because of his outing today or maybe cause they told him he is no longer available.

Reporters jumped the gun a bit on this one, no?

Lol looks like it. Or maybe someone got cold feet after his outing. However most writers were saying nothing probably was imminent if they had him out there pitching this afternoon.

Probably trading Dayan for him, have to wait till this game is over

Could a deal be structured in such a way that a player would be included after the season ends? They sometimes have the "Player to be Names later", so couldn't they structure a deal for "King" Felix that included Quintana, but not until after the season. The sox would have Danks back next year, and if they resigned Liriana, they would have 3 lefties in Danks, Sale and Liriana. They wouldn't need Quintana.

Quintana is exactly the kind of cost controlled young pitcher that should appeal to the Mariners. What good in Hernandez to them now that they aren't competitive?

He will cost them $39 Million, over the next 2 years. The Sox could afford to pay him that money, if they don't pick up Peavy's option.

It isn't nearly such a big risk to pay a stud pitcher that kind of money for a couple of years. The contracts that are scary are the long term deals, especially for pitchers.

Do you think that the Mariners would be intersted in Floyd and Quintana for "King Felix"?

I believe a PTBNL cannot have played in the same league that he is being traded to.

PTBNL can't be traded within the same league. For some reason I always thought they couldn't be on the major league roster, but I guess they technically can be. It turns out on time, a player was traded for himself (he ended up being the PTBNL).
