He's a younger version of Joe Torre IMO. If he manages long enough, someday the overwhelming feeling will be Robin has to go and needs to be replaced by someone more like Ozzie. That's the way it almost always goes. RV was a tremendous hire.

That was one of the quotes I was referring to. That just makes me think the media in this town is completely in Ozzie's pocked, because in any other town, an owner talking like that about a manager would have been front page news, and all over for talk radio for days.

Exactly my point. Not in the Trib, not in the ST (lol), not in the Herald or Southtown, Not AM 1000 or the Score, or any of the sports media in Chicago but the New York f***ing Times. And even after it got published, no one at all talked about it. No one.

Cowley mentioned it in April in his Ozzie will never come back as long as KW is around column as another unneccesary diss of the great Oz. Of course Joe failed to mention the Sox would actually have want him back. Ozzie's in the cellar, the Sox are in first place. Joe's Ozzie columns have come to a screeching halt.

Ozzie provided a lot of notable quotables over the years...which is gold to the media. Probably don't want to rock the boat. Which is really a shame.

Ventura's team slashed payroll by $25 million or so and is 6 games ahead of where they were last year after this many games.

 

Guillen's team expanded payroll by $62 million or so and is 3 games behind where they were last year after this many games.

Who cares who he said it to. The NYT isn't a small paper. You can't tell me the Chicago media didn't know he said. They just ignored it.

Liked the Ventura hire from the beginning, but I refuse to pile on Guillen. His time was clearly up, but he was the right hire at the right time. He won a World Series.
