By the way, I would love to get any kind of scouting info people might have on Nick McCully. I got basically nothing.

Here's a nice article on him...

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/06...barons_pit.html

Was a reliever who got put into the rotation when Molina got hurt. Added a changeup to his fastball and slider. Pitching coach also worked on his windup as a starter....Everything seems to have come together for him.

From BP's Eyewitness Accounts:

Courtney Hawkins is a prospect being challenged by the Chicago White Sox. He is placed in High-A only a year after being drafted. In my opinion, the problems are being amplified by him being placed in the challenge assignment, but his overall skill set would struggle anywhere. Hawkins’ carrying tool was his power, and he will not have enough contact ability for it to matter.

Grade: 30; organizational player

Risk: n/a

.282 average, .344 OBP, .770 OPS. Not great numbers but BHam is a pitchers park also.

Yikes - but of course, it sounds like they are saying he was never a good prospect in the first place so I guess we can just sit on our hands.

With the new park this year, have we gotten some feedback on how it is playing?

Minor league park factors usually come out after the season or before next season. After roughly looking at the H/A splits for Barons hitters, I think it plays slightly towards the hitters.

Chris Bassitt just followed me on twitter lol. I was so surprised, I don't know how he found me but I thought I would share with you guys.

MICHAEL Johnson (not Micah) hit in the ankle a few days ago with a 95 mph fastball, fracturing his fibula. Out for the season.

That sucks, was putting together a great year

Birmingham Barons ‏@BhamBarons 45m

With a record of 62-39, the Barons are tied for the 4th-best record in @MiLB and the best record in the @SLeagueBaseball.

You guys think if Semien and Micah Johnson keep having great seasons that we can Semein start at 2b in AAA next year and Micah in AA next year?

I don't see why not. Achieve and advance.

BP's Jason Parks on Braulio Ortiz (free content):

Braulio Ortiz, RHP, White Sox (High-A Winston Salem)

It has been a big season for the big Dominican arm, making the jump from the DSL to full-season ball, and after a stellar run in Low-A, the 21-year-old now finds himself in the Carolina League. Even though he has made a few starts, Ortiz profiles as a power arm in the 'pen, riding an impressive mid-90s fastball and missing more than a bat per inning. The command is loose and the secondary arsenal needs refinement, but Ortiz is on the fast-track, and looks like a prospect to keep an eye on going forward. —Jason Parks

That's where they should start.

Interesting. I didn't know these totals before.

White Sox have a new C at Birmingham, that I don't see any trade info for. Anyone know anything here?

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=543523

They got him in a transaction from a different AA team, Eastern League I think, Trenton. Not sure we gave up anything, he has been a career backup catcher, never gotten more than 100 or so ABs at any stop.

Going whole hog on dinner I see

Anyone here anything about Zach Isler leaving the Kanny game after feeling shoulder discomfort? He is on the DL now, but I was wondering if anyone heard he got surgery.

Semien to Charlotte, per everyone

Ha!

We interviewed him Tuesday, and two days later, he's promoted.

We interviewed Micah Johnson and he was promoted a few days later too.

Apparently the FS interview is the harbinger of promotion.

Where will he play? 3B over Morel? Or will he be at 2B? I am excited to see him play with Sanchez

He and Carlos will be the middle infield I'm sure, but it is hard to say which plays where. They may switch back and forth some, at least at first, to see who seems more comfortable at each position.
