Nothing like comparing a 3-point OT loss to a 43 point loss.

 

I was comparing 20 points vs. 11 points both vs. horrible defenses. If it's on McCown the Bears only scored 20 vs. Minnesota, how can it not be on Cutler if they only score 11 vs. Philadelphia?

IIRC they left like 14 pts on the board with some awful play calling by Trestman and running by Bush.

Sure some of it is on Cutler, he didn't play his best game and a couple first downs early could have helped. But the defense also gave up 45 last night, while they gave up 23 in nearly 5 quarters vs. Minnesota.

 

And Forte missed a couple of big blocks. And the offensive line was manhandled. And Hester fumbled early in the game. Those didn't happen vs. Minnesota, did they?

No, Jay couldn't have won the game. But the d score was worse by our 3 and outs. And really the issue and why I'm so annoyed by his play was this was a game we knew the offense could not get behind schedule. Yet they came out with three and outs and bad throws and drops.

 

And worse is when Jay gets behind it brings out bad Jay so easily. He holds onto the ball longer, he starts firing ball to Marshall in double coverage, he gets sacked and fumbles from both of these. Basically if we fall behind by more than 10 he ditches the offense. But you are right, McCown uses our offense to work the ball up and down the field beautifully. But his lack of arm kills us in red zone.

I mean, there were two 3 and outs and they were already down 21 to 0.

 

The offense sucked as did Jay but everything kind of changes when you're down 21 to 0 in the blink of an eye.

Speaking as a Packers fan, I fully expect the Bears to beat Green Bay on Sunday.

As bad as they looked against Philadelphia, the Packers' "defense" is going to make them look like world-beaters.

Throw in the coaching genius known as Mike McCarthy and the Bears can't lose.

The Pack will need to score 40 points to outplay their horrible defense, and that ain't happening.

All I can think is you packer fans have no idea how spoiled you are when Mike McCarthy is your idea of a whipping boy for coaches.

It was obvious 5 minutes into the game they were going to have to score at least 40 to win. They would have needed almost 60, and if McCown started, I realize they still would have lost. I am just saying blaming McCown for the 20 should mean you should blame Cutler for the 11. Considering they scored 11 and he threw a pick 6, the defense could have been really good last night and a loss would have occurred. Like what was pointed out earlier, special teams with a bad punt and a fumble got the ball rolling the wrong way. The defense looks Illini-esque, and the offense wasn't good enough to win even if the other phases actually did their jobs.

 

 

Im not sure about Cassell in Minnesota, but all three QBs for the Lions, Bears and Packers threw a pick 6. Cutlers Pick 6 was just icing on the cake, but the Lions and Packers Pick 6's were pretty significant

If Jay loses next week, he better give Chicago a big discount.

If this happens I don't think there will be any faction of the fanbase that wants to keep Cutler around. He's hanging on by a thread as it is, but losing to your team's rival that is riddled with injuries would just be the end.

There will always be an excuse. Other QBs get down and have to pass and do OK.

 

The fact is the great Jay Cutler has not distinguished himself in a good way from Josh McCown in 2013. I'll be the first to tell you I think he is better, but, it doesn't appear Jay is the franchise QB a lot of us hoped he was when he was acquired, or there wouldn't be any need for excuses.

What's the early line for the game? I'd expect the Bears to be favored by 5 with all of the Packer injuries.

At this point I'd give bears 2.5 and that's it. They don't want to be in playoffs.

The complaints about Trestman/Tucker not motivating the players enough is really annoying. Playing for a division title and a spot in the playoffs should be motivation enough for professional athletes.
