The reason to trade Peavy is to get prospects-- not to soothe the fans and give them some emotional reward

 

If you're not getting good prospects, then you dont deal him.

If Hahn doesn't get a package of players he thinks is worth it, he is a good player to build a staff around. I think it's a ploy to up the bidding. But if not he can still trade Q, Santiago or Peavy over the winter.

Early today: Peavy says he's leaving Sox

 

Mid-day: Peavy says he could have another Sox start

 

4pm: Sox leak that they could keep him thru the deadline

 

 

 

So it's basically the Sox not getting the ideal offer and deciding they want to win the rumor mill for the day and go to sleep tonight making the suitors nervous.

It's the best. It would be different if Hahn makes this statement Weds at 1. However with almost two days left, its more likely a negotiation ploy.

YES as far as I'm concerned.

I disagree. The goal is to make the sox a better team. Peavy is an above average starting pitcher. That is worth alot. If the players you are being offered don't make the team that much better, don't do it.

When there are multiple teams offering proposals, you take the best one. It's just too risky to hang on to Peavy. In my opinion, his value can't get much higher. Do it now.
