July 28, 201312 yr QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Looks like Boston has some interest in Lindstrom. http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2013/7/28/4564...ires-jake-peavy I'd love to get Betts and/or Johnson for Matt like this article suggests. Betts looks like a fun prospect to follow. 1. His names Mookie and 2. He can take a walk. Johnson was a 2 way player at Florida and he's pitching really well right now in A ball(opponents hitting under .200 against him).
July 30, 201312 yr I had the Dodgers getting Lindstrom, but the Wilson signing makes it much less likely.
July 30, 201312 yr I noticed last night that Lindstrom pitched to one batter. Ventura has never used him purely as a situational righty before. Perhaps showcasing him a little....his splits are still strong against right handed hitters.
July 30, 201312 yr QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) I think it had more to do with Brantley (lefty) pinch hitting, Bourn (lefty) on deck, Swisher in the hole (switch), Kipnis (lefty) after that and Cabrera (switch) after that. LOL
July 30, 201312 yr I'd guess Lindstrom just ends up as a throw in type guy in either a Peavy or Rios trade.
July 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:06 AM) How could anybody want Lindstrom? He's better than a lot of crap in people's bullpens?
July 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) He's better than a lot of crap in people's bullpens? I'm debating whether to just give up on replying to those posts.
July 31, 201312 yr He's better than a lot of crap in people's bullpens? Yes, he's worth one lottery-ticket type prospect and eating most of what he's owed.

Okay, well last night, Nate Jones, who has pitched once in the last week and is clearly our 2nd to best reliever. doesn't come out to take the 8th inning. INstead, Ventura uses Lindstrom. What's the explanation for that? Now it could be Ventura being Ventura. But that decision seems so dense, that it might suggest a showcase (that didn't work).

July 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) Showcase for a trade Apparently the Dodgers wanted him but Rick asked for too much. Thus, the Brian Wilson trade.

July 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) Reed for Owings or Davivdson + I thought that said "Lindstrom for Owings+" and was like "SIGN ME UP!"
July 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) I thought that said "Lindstrom for Owings+" and was like "SIGN ME UP!" Would you say no to Reed for Owings+? I wouldn't. I'd trust Jones or Webb as the closer next year. If the offense takes off and neither are successful then they can look to add a closer in 2015.
July 31, 201312 yr If your trading Reed, you better get a better prospect than Owings. Owings looks like a nice prospect and all but he is flawed (inflated numbers this season, poor K:BB, can he stick at SS?). I'm not understanding why everyone is infatuated with him
July 31, 201312 yr QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) If your trading Reed, you better get a better prospect than Owings. Owings looks like a nice prospect and all but he is flawed (inflated numbers this season, poor K:BB, can he stick at SS?). I'm not understanding why everyone is infatuated with him Oh idk, maybe because he's batting .346 in AAA and is showing plus power for the SS position. Scouting reports say he can be solid at SS. He's a top 100 prospect, that's kinda more than what I'd expect for an above average, not great, closer. Plate discipline is something I believe a hitter can work on more as they get older. We're seeing a little bit of that with Dayan this year. Edited July 31, 201312 yr by scs787
July 31, 201312 yr Reed's a relief pitcher. If you can get a dynamic shortstop prospect for him, consider it. And the reality is that our farm is much more adept at developing pitchers than hitters. Deal from strength.
July 31, 201312 yr Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 2m White Sox pitchers gathering in the OF to work out. The entire gang appears to be there.
