The trail runner on the previous hit should have been held at 1st.

Viciedo tried to get the runner at 3rd and once again missed the cutoff man with his throw.

How would foolishly trying to cut down the runner there and allowing the trail runner to come into 2nd prevent the run scoring, pray tell?

It was a hit and run , Bourne was making it to 3rd easily. Not sure why the throw went there. Maybe thats where they wanted it but Viciedo was not trying to get the runner.

Why would Ramirez not be lined up to cut the throw and go to 2nd with the play?

They had no shot at the runner going home.

Throwing to 3B makes even LESS sense with Bourn (as you say) going there on a hit and run.

Konerko's first infield single in years, lol.

They spent several minutes talking about how a throw to second would have allowed Bourn to score. The entire defense set up to have throw cut to home because Bourn could have given it a go.

Ask Ramirez ? He cut it off by third. So at least it's not Viciedo's fault so you can make up your mind later since now you seem to be switching the blame to Alexei .

If Michael Bourn is so fast that Alexei Ramirez, who has one of the best arms of any SS in baseball, can't set up short LF and either cut off the ball and throw to 2nd (he would have had the 3rd out there before Bourne would have been able to score, anyway) or let it go through, they might as well just give up trying to play baseball this season.

Or the White Sox should sign all track stars like Jerry Owens, Jared Mitchell, Pods or Anderson Gomes to scare the bejesus out of opposing teams' defenses.

Not if Swisher was caught in rundown . I really don't think it was played poorly .

Well, since the internet isn't so great here on the slopes of Kilimanjaro here in Tanzania, I was simply going by the Indians' announcers' call.

Will have to wait until I can get a good enough stream to watch the mlb.com condensed game.

So then more teams would try to do the same thing...getting runners caught between 1st and 2nd while the runner at 3B scores the final run of the inning before the rundown's completed. That's also a big gamble to take with the offense turning it on against a rookie in his debut on the ropes.....that you run yourself out of an inning when you're just as likely to knock in the go ahead run/s with the next batter.

That said, with how terrible the White Sox have been executing rundowns properly this year, yeah, better just to let runners cruise into second base.
