2013-14 off season player movement thread

Dbacks get P Justin Choate (undrafted, in A-Ball), and a PTBNL in exchange for David Holmberg and Heath Bell.

Ouch, not liking that deal for AZ at all. I realize that they are shedding $5.5M of Heath Bell, but that hardly seems worth dumping Holmberg just to solve.

EDIT: Strike that, they shed $5M, as they are paying $500K of Bell's salary.

the Diamondbacks got rid of Heath Bell without having to eat any of his salary, which is a big win... similar to the Sox trading Mark Teahen.

Tigers will pay Joe Nathan more than $20M over 2 years. Yikes.

Salty to Miami. The catcher market broke the dam today.

Considering how much of a black hole a closer has been since Papa Grande fell apart in the playoffs/world series a few years ago, they probably view that as well worth it.

#Athletics have shed four consecutive first-rounders since July: James Simmons ’07, Jemile Weeks ’08, Grant Green ’09 & Michael Choice ’10.

So does that mean that prospects are now overvalued?

Brett Anderson will be traded today. Probably either Blue Jays or Twins.

Man, next weeks winter meetings may be as uneventful as last year after this crazy week.

That deal's not a long one, so I think it's a very fair deal given how much closers get paid on the open market.

If that deal is less than $25 million, it just proves that the Sox are content with what they already have right now.

Reds did not invite Brandon Phillips to Redsfest and sources continue to insist that he will traded between now and the end of the WTR Mtgs

Philips is so overrated and probably over-paid at this point in his career.

Source: Luke Gregerson going to A's for Seth Smith. 1-for-1 deal.

Billy Beane must have vacation plans for next week. This is what, the 4th move since Sunday?

And what's with them trading for relievers?

3rd move in 26 hours.

Jealous. Not that Dylan Axelrod getting non-tendered isn't exciting stuff, but...

Saltalamacchia was looking for a minimum of 3 guaranteed years. Other teams believe he's heading for #Marlins for 2 years & possible option

Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 10m

Person w/direct knowledge: Saltalamacchia has a 3-year offer in hand from the #Marlins and is meeting today with MIA owner Jeffrey Loria.

I'm not going to get worked up about Hahn passing on him. I might have paid him that much, but he's a super-duper-high strikeout player that has had one good season in his career in a pretty decent lineup

I really do agree. I thought he might have gotten a 4th year, but I guess he barely got a 3rd. I thought he might have gotten $10 mill too, but the $7-8 is still significant.

I don't think the Sox liked the idea of Saltalamacchia.

If he's getting that kind of money then no one liked him.

A lock down bullpen will win you a lot of games

Wow, busy day in baseball.

Wow that is a terrible trade for the Rockies

Saw a tweet on mlbtraderumors that Royals might be favorites to get Beltran.
