Gotta wonder how long Hahn is going to stand pat with all this activity going on around the Sox in the ALC?

None of the moves made should be in response to the ALC getting better, in my opinion. If you're not going to try and compete next season and/or the year after that, then by all means, spend away ALC.

The dumbest thing Rick Hahn could do would be to make a deal simply because other teams are making deals.

Im not saying to make a deal just for no reason, but I would like to think this team wants to atleast be a little competitive next season. There are moves to be made, make them. If not, sell off parts and start this rebuild already.

Isn't that what they did last year? There's not much left on the MLB roster to actually trade that you can get good value for.

Those saying the Rockies got fleeced...would you accept Lyles and Barmes for De Aza right now?

If someone said I can have Salty for 3/21 or Beltran for 3/48, I'm picking Salty a thousand times though

The Royals are in a position where they have to overpay to get the guys they really want. Same thing with the Mariners.

I think Beltran will benefit being in the AL. Maybe Butler will get traded next week.

If he's getting that kind of money then no one liked him.

Noone but me, apparently. Had forgotten about Grandal's PEDs. Not liking the dwindling options at all. 3/21 seems so low in this mkt. I can't quite fathom it.

Yes, I would. Although I don't fall in that category of people who think the Rockies got fleeced.

The White Sox right now are in a position of "we need nearly everything to go right in order to be competitive". There's no move out there, or even set of moves, we could make to change that. We need guys like Viciedo, Garcia, Abreu, to hit, we need the defense to remember what 2012 was like, we need the pitching to stay solid or even get better next year.

You could upgrade catcher and 3b and still not change that statement. If all those things go right, then maybe whether or not our catchers produce could matter, but if they don't kill the ball then our catcher won't make up the difference. And if all those guys are killing the ball, then we can worry about upgrading the spots that aren't producing at the deadline when we're in better shape.

FWIW per MLBTR

6:52pm: Saltalamacchia will get $6MM in 2014, $7MM in '15, and $8MM in '16, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (on Twitter)

Rockies Closing In On Two-Year Deal With Justin Morneau http://dlvr.it/4RTK7P #mlb

Ellsbury's going to be pretty great with that short porch in RF. People forget how deep Fenway is to right and right center once you get away from the RF line.

Teams have now spent $524 million on free agents this offseason. The Yankees account for $238 million of that, or 45.4%.

For those of you who are bored by the lack of White Sox roster news, someone is having fun on Wikipedia editing Sox players' pages with some pretty funny stuff.

From Keppinger's page:

On December 10, 2012, Keppinger signed a 3-yr $12 million deal with the Chicago White Sox.[8] Keppinger quickly became a bane to the White Sox roster, posting a -1.5 WAR for qualifying batters, narrowly edging Placido Polanco for the dubious distinction of being the worst third baseman in all of major league baseball.

And Veal:

Veal throws mainly three pitches — a four-seam fastball at 91–94 mph, used to set up a curveball at 77–79 mph, and his signature pitch - the meatball. He also throws a small amount of changeups to right-handed hitters, as well has a handful of two-seam fastballs.

Yankees may still sign Cano even after Ellsbury.

I don't think so. I predicted the Mariners last week, and today's revelations make me think that may not have been a crazy guess.

Financially speaking it makes perfect sense. Not sure how Can would feel about hitting at Safeco. Would have think the power numbers take a hit.

More importantly, what does Jay-Z think about the Pacific Northwest?

If Jay-Z got the money they were looking for I'm sure he'd be fine with it. Jay-Z Maguire anyone?
